non steam game update (genshin impact)

hi, just wanted to ask how to update a non steam game on steam deck? i installed genshin impact on my steam deck but i can't update it's new client..thanks

You update it the same way you've installed it just like on any other PC.

it won't update normally like the pc..tried re installing it but it won't lunch..im using steam os btw..any other option?

just followed the instructions on youtube and it was able to run on steam..but now can't update client coz' it's not auto update..

yes..just consumed my free space but did not launch as well..oh well maybe just have to restore my deck.. :'( too bad steam don't allow auto clean on uninstalling non steam games..better play it on booted windows..if this will happen everytime there is an update on non steam games..

for software updates and installing, not all games work the same way, so is true you usually shouldnt need to do anything new (in relation to how you installed it originally) when updating windows software in linux, but you should never assume that what works with one game will work with all, the same way.

so, if theres a standalone patch for a game, you probably need to install it in a similar way to how you installed the game; in some cases, its probably better to use lutris for that, and then add the game to steam.

also using a different version of proton may help, but only if it addresses anything that changed in the game with the update, so its wiser to read first if someone else already tried successfully the process of installing and or updating before trying it yourself if you are low in disk space, so you get the version of proton is more likely to work.

so short version, use watch tutorials for "lutris", and use that for installing non-steam games, specially older titles, or games that may need a third party launcher that arent inside steam store like genshin impact.
