Can't use any keyboard in desktop mode help!!

I just got a steam deck, and I'm trying to set it up
Thing is I can't type in desktop mode no matter what I do, the built in keyboard doesn't work, corekeyboard doesn't work, and even my Bluetooth keyboard doesn't work, and I'm at my wits end trying to figure out why

I need to be able to type to search and set up mods like bloodlines unofficial patch, spider man suits, and stardew valley extended

Did you shutdown Steam at the desktop?

It would confirm or deny half of the problem. The default Desktop controls are applied with Steam running.

I've tried the other two with it shut down and all 3 when it's live

ok i found out if i hold down the key on the bluetooth keyboard and core for a few seconds itll type the key

I'm not sure what Bluetooth keyboard you are using, but your description of it's behavior does not seem normal. I'm using an iClever portable keyboard and I just navigate the pointer to the text field, click into the field and start typing.

Just one I bought on clearance for 10 dollars
And it's only in desktop mode it does that

I don't have that in Desktop mode. You could try a Factory Reset if you haven't installed much yet, or you can deal with it (and hope there aren't other problems). But that behavior sounds odd without being able to actually see it.

I have the same issue. No matter the keyboard, you have to hold what key you want for a full “1 Mississippi” before it will show. Typing is a bioch like this. Does anyone know why or what setting this is?

Open the steam client on entering desktop mode. If that doesn't work, restart your device. When your cursor is on the text box, press X on your controller.
