Last one says "use game controller" , how do we do that on Steam OS ?
Sometimes when they mean its not supported it may mean its not optimised for deck (as you know deck uses custom hardware that's not available for windows pcs). On the other hand it can also mean that its keybindings are normally bound on mouse and keyboard so while it might open on steam deck, those keybindings can cause some issues.
If you are unsure whether you should buy it or not just because of deck, i would say try to google and see if you can install a pirated version on deck and add it as a non steam game on deck and try it out. I play few games which says not supported like mortal kombat 11, but I get perfect 60 fps and no lags or keybind issues while playing this game, so much that now I only play mk11 on steam deck which is supposed to be an unsupported game.
Some games may also have launchers which gets separately installed like ea play for nfs games so it says some nfs games are unsupported since those launchers need to be installed on a windows machine and deck is linux, but i ran all of them on steam just fine.
All in all, unsupported means steam has not tested its functionality on steam deck yet and will not be answerable if it causes any issues while playing. But the beauty of deck is that its customizable and testable enough for the users themselves so you can try to manually install it and see if you can play it. I am sure there might be some ways in which you can install windows games on linux machine like wine or something else just search it up.
Hope it helps. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong anywhere.
You say "try a copy on Steam OS and add it as a non-steam game"
But for that I need to install a Linux copy. I am not sure I can find that.
Well if I try it on Wine, the performance will be awful becase Wine is an emulator and drops performance AFAIK.

Next, if this title uses the EA Play application launcher, there was a recent update to their launcher that breaks how it works in Game Mode. If will require you to go into the game properties, select "Developer" and "Delete Proton files" every time you launch it at least right now.
Not all of the older EA titles use their launcher so it just depends.
Well I don't disagree about wine. What I mentioned about wine was an example to install it. Linux OS can't understand exe applications and that's how your setup is gonna be. So wine can recognise and install it in linux. Once that's done you can get the file path where it's installed and add it on steam as a non steam game and steam will run it for you using its own system files that should not technically give performance drop like wine.
But then again this was just an idea I gave. There must be some other less complicated way to check it but i just don't know about it.
Not sure what you mean by installing a linux copy tho. Steam deck runs on SteamOS which is a linux distro so you don't need any os copy to install here but maybe i am misunderstanding something here.
But it does not exist. Anyway, about our idea;
1. I need to find an install Wine on Steam OS (desktop mode ?)
2. Then isntall the game through wine.
3. get a path to the installed game.
4. add the path to Steam as a non-steam game.
But then the installed game will also be a Windows exe, am I wrong ?
If you have SteamOS installed, and you are installing from Steam directly, everything needed to run it is already there.
If you have SteamOS installed and if you are installing from EA Play, you can use Lutris or Heroic to install in Desktop Mode.
Let's clarify something first. You initially asked:
If you are purchasing "from Steam", to run on SteamOS; you don't need any of that. You just download and go.
