can someone explain pc to deck game transfers?
so while looking for to disable prefetch cache in gamermode (seems disabled), saw that theres an option for file/game transfers from pc to deck but no option to do so (i know that only desktop mode allows prefetch to disable)j but pc or deck dont have the option to tranfer pc to deck game files over internet even with the option on both deck and pc...some non linux elitist help would be ok

Local transfers.

Local Network Game Transfers
  • Added new feature that allows Steam users to copy existing Steam game installation and update files from one PC to another over a local area network, without having to download and install from a Steam content server on the internet. This reduces internet traffic and can speed up installs or updates.
  • This feature is currently only PC -> PC or PC -> Steam Deck, and both sender and receiver must be opted into Steam Beta.
  • Steam users have control over who files can be sent to: self only, friends only, or everyone. The default setting is self only.
  • More info about this new feature can be found here: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/46BD-6BA8-B012-CE43

If your PC has the game installed, and your deck is on the same network with both systems powered on, when you try to install a game on the deck that is already on your PC, it will automagically do a network transfer.

I use Warpinator for file transfers. Pretty simple, actually.

You have to opt-in to Steam beta on both devices, and you have to turn network transfers on in the settings on both devices.

Local network transfers will go from desktop to Steam Deck, but not Steam Deck to desktop, interestingly.

It was pushed to both stable branches on the 15th. No beta required.

Good to know!

I do think you still need to turn it on in the settings though.

False. This is ENABLED by default (as outlined in the support article).

Are you logged into Steam on his PC?

agreed, while i did notice that if pc steam is logged in and semi open, it shows a game transfer of files from pc to deck with a popup but no real transfer to deck, also it was mainly about if and why deck stopped recognizing pc favorites syncing, to which a non steam? favorite semi shows up on deck but doesnt show up as to how to transfer files/game to deck since pc shows non? steam game with icon and deck doesnt which i should be able to que or tranfer under this new option to deck if its recognized as non? (also a steam game) to deck but seems deck is janky after updates with former pc recognizations, so this new update doesnt seem to have an option to transfer games from pc to deck...

How did you turn it on? There's 3 settings classifying as "onc, the default one only allowing transfers between the same account.
