Steam Deck

Are the shoulder buttons supposed to be a little loose?
I just got a deck and noticed when you press the shoulder buttons, they press in a little bit before you get to the actual hard press of the button. I don't know if that makes sense. It's like they have a little wiggle to them. Did I get a bad deck, or is it supposed to be this way?

Define "a little." Checking mine, they go in maybe 1mm before feeling like they make contact with the actual button. Checking my Xbox Series controller, it doesn't have the same travel, but that's probably been refined several more times than the Deck.

I suspect it's normal for the Deck, or at the very least not something you're likely to get an RMA for if they're not actually have any give.

Yeah "travel" is a better word for it. I would say 1mm or 2? Hard to say. I checked my other controllers too, and they don't have ANY travel like that. That's why I was concerned. But I also thought it's normal.

What's RMA?

RMA = Return Merchandise Authorization. Basically permission to send the product (in this case the Steam Deck) back to the store/manufacturer in order to get a refund or have it repaired under warranty.

If you're really worried about it, you could try contacting support about it, but I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you.

I'll definitely try customer support. I don't care. I think I'm just being paranoid tbh. You said yours goes in a little too, so I think that's just they way they are. So far, I'm not having any other issues. Thanks.

Do you the rest of your buttons have any give like that? Mine sure don't.

Mine have a slight bit of play before they click. I don’t think you have anything serious to worry about

That's what I thought. It's just hard to know when you don't have another deck to compare it to lol. Thanks.

imo I wouldn't worry as long as it is working as it should. On the other hand, Valve seems pretty quick to resolve these issues if you reach out to them so if it really worries you and you are within that window, it may be an option.

:D
Mine have a slight wiggle but click immediately...
However, I have one of the 'sometimes (B) button gets stuck in the chassis' og decks

It adds character....sssssssss
(or sometimes just deletes them!)

:P
