Price Match
Anyone know if Valve offers a price match option? I just bought my deck a few days ago, and now the price dropped. I have the option to return it, it's still being shipped out and hasn't arrived yet, but I'm hoping they can just credit the difference to save everyone the hassle of me buying another deck and returning the one that's on the way. Thanks!

No. Once it is shipped, you can only get a full refund and purchase it again.

Price matches are usually reserved for competing stores (of which there are none). I mean, do I get a partial refund after paying full price in July? How far back does that go? Caveat Emptor applies here.

Part of the Abuse clause goes into detail for store purchases but not physical products...

If they get enough return requests and the processing fees look like they might add up to something significantly higher than sorting out refunds for the difference, then I could see them doing it, but that's a big if. I'd be surprised if there was that many people who are eligible for a return and will do so.

That would require a ton of returns in the very small one week period which probably will never happen, especially when most people don't even look at the store and would never notice the sale in time.

I bet everyone who receieved a steam deck in the last couple of weeks is getting messages from friends about the discount! Question is whether they consider the price difference is worth bothering with dealing with the return and waiting for the replacement.

Let's just say that it can't hurt to ask.

Yeah I went ahead and reached out to support, like I’m within the window to return the device, it’s unopened, and I can buy another one, but it just seems so wasteful to have to ship one back and wait for another one to get here to save the $40, hopefully they can work with me on this.

I am basically in the same situation - today I have received package with my brand new Steam Deck (512GB model) and it is on -10% sale now. Just my luck! :D I have asked Steam Support if it is possible to get the discount without sending it back (I still have 14 days to return it) and buying another one as it is just a waste of time but I doubt. Will see.

I think it’s fair to request the difference if you’re still in the return window. I worked for an electronics retail store in the past that honored sale price protection on items if they were still in the return window, as a consumer I think it’s a fair practice. I wouldn’t expect the store to give me the difference on the sale price on a laptop I bought months ago, but if I got it within the last 2 weeks I think it’s fair.

At the very least, I think a credit to our Steam Wallet would be fair.

I love it too but that $40 (if you bought the base model) can be put towards more games to play on our Decks :lunar2019laughingpig:

nah i bought the 512gb model and i've been buying so many games over the past decade that went on sale that i never played that are steam deck verified that i have more than plenty of content to go through before i even think about buying more. not to mention i still get the big dog games on my pc and mainly play there. but ya, i know how the sales go. i remember buying red read 2 for 60 bucks and the next day i twas only 30. i was told by steam support themselves that the only thing you can do is to refund and rebuy. but i mean, they have the same spring and winter sales every year. people should know this when going to buy if they're that hard up on cash when wanting to buy something like this.
