Steam Deck
Steam Decks vs Rog Ally
If you like handheld pcs and you already own a steam deck(or if you are interested into buying a handheld device) are you actually interested in the new asus rog ally? If you don’t have a deck which one would you buy?
The Rog ally actually has a 1080 p screen and 120hz refresh screen. It’s also comes with windows which is kinda meh but since it’s a pc you can install linux on it

I think steam deck is great for travel something you can't play on computer laptop (Limited travel, you can't use it in car or aircraft very well, more or less?) or PC desktop, PC desktop is best but only when you had place to live for long time, but if you do not able to live a same place for long time, but had to move place to place often or all the time or even homeless, then laptop would be better, Steam Deck is offer for playing game while travel in car or aircraft or train or boat or go out with your family or friend but felt outcast or bored, so steam deck offer that. Am I right?

Yes. What we are discussing here is the value proposition. Mentioning again that I went from the "will buy" camp when it was announced to "wait and see" after initial reviews showed it to be a marginal improvement over the deck. Not that different from the 6800u devices already around just at a significantly lower cost. To "I will most likely not buy it" as the more I think about it the less sense it makes for me. Even if I didn't own a SD I would probably buy one again instead of the Ally. And it comes down to value. I could buy a 256GB deck and an XBox series S for the price of the ally. I could play on the go with the deck and couch game with the xbox and gamepass for better performance than either the Ally or the Deck with the same limitations of the Ally in party mode. The reason I wanted an ally was to replace my desktop tower as a VR machine but the Ally is completely unsuited for VR. Lacks a lot of power. So for me, the Ally is a bad investment.
The Ally is mostly good if you don't have a home Desktop or Steam Deck yet. It's decent for $700, but I would get the laptop GPU they sell for gaming at home. If you already have a Steam Deck, building a new Desktop is cheaper and you'll get better performance.

700 in the US. In the EU it is 800 euros and in the UK 700 pounds (the 256 GB deck is 450 pounds and Xbox S is 250). That alone makes the value of the Ally far worse imho as for the same price you can buy a laptop that will smack it, or a second hand desktop that will thoroughly smash it. For the 30w profile that will keep you tethered to the mains. If you use it on the go with the 15w profile than the value gets even worse as you are just leaving performance on the table and you need to downsample demanding games to 720p which will look worse than the deck's native 800p display.

Well, it is powerful enough that it replaced my laptop entirely. I still have my desktop but haven't powered it on since getting the deck. It is more useable than a laptop yes. But it also offers a good docked experience with some compromises on graphical settings and fidelity. It is basically a slightly better PS4 in that regard. And if you were looking for a new laptop, I would throw the basemodel steam deck into my recomendations as the hardware it packs for the 400 dollar asking price is insanely good value. You cannot find a new laptop that will outperform it for the same price (whereas for the price of the Ally you can get a laptop that will smash it).

Yeah, a laptop or Desktop will smash the Ally. I can only recommend the Ally if you travel a lot or you're on the go most of the time. Even then, the Steam Deck is cheaper and has better battery life. But, not every game runs on Linux and Steam Deck isn't as good for Windows.
Considering ASUS is a scummy company I wouldn't get an Ally no matter how much better it is than the steam deck, because if anything breaks ASUS will try and literally coerce you into scam 'fixes'

For a device as expensive as this, this kind of support is insane. If their bad build quality breaks something then you're stuck with a broken device or a huge scam bill

the Ally could have 1/4th the Temps, 4x the power, 4x the battery life and 4x the resolution at half the price and I STILL wouldn't recommend it.

Different customer service story.
I had a 64GB faulty crashing SD model. After normal RMA process I send it back to Valve and they replaced a new one without issues.
Zero costs. Increasing TRUST

SAme. Only time i possibly recommend it would be if you were residing in norway. As we not only have 5 years of warranty by law, but over here, you give the thing to the store you bought it from, and store would handle the rest. I had a similar case with bergsala to repair my switch, 13 weeks in and 4 pingpongs back and forth, store i bought switch from thought ♥♥♥♥ it, here, have a new switch lol.
