Turn Off Display While Docked?
For some reason, the display stays on while docked and the touchscreen still accepts input but in a rotated orientation for some reason. Any way to change this behavior?

the touchscreen idk, but the docked part, on dekstop mode, right click the desktop, there should be something mentioning the display, you can change it there if its acting like a mirror, a second screen, or if its turned off. whatever you prefer

I said docked, and it actually doesn't matter, the internal touchscreen is also still active in desktop mode even when you turn it off in the settings.

The screen won't turn off and I would assume this negatively impacts battery life for no reason

!? and i described docked?

in gaming mode it should turn off by itself as soon as you plug it into the dock lol.

as for the touchscreen idk if thats able to be turned off, but the screen definitly turns off in gaming mode when you plug it in, atleast for me and my mate

To me docked means putting it in a dock and having it switch over to the TV seamlessly, same as docking the Switch or a smartphone. If you're in desktop mode it doesn't work that way. I'm not sure if docked has a different meaning because that's the only meaning I'm aware of

And that's literally the reason I made this post because it does not turn off, the very problem I described

Are you sure? Turn off all lights in your room and you might be surprised to see the backlight is still on, so the screen is definitely on, just displaying black pixels. Which would also explain why the touchscreen is also still active

Yep i specifically took a look after i saw your post/comment.

and to add to your desktop mode concern, once you disabled the steam decks screen in desktop mode, it seamlessly also turns off whenever you plug it in in desktop mode, hence why i described it...

i googled and it seems like its a bug that sometimes appears for a handfull of users, some were on beta channels, some were not... it seems like the only way to get rid of this is to reinstall an update or wait for a valve update to fix it it seemed
Okay, so it is a bug then? Welp

It doesn't, only for that one specific display and display configuration. Change any tiny variable and it's back to 'idk what this is so I will just show both displays'. Desktop mode has no consistent docking experience unfortunately

You have to be in Gamemode for the automatic seamless experience you want. When in DesktopMode it behaves like a PC adding a second display. You can while in Desktop Mode open the display settings and turn off the built in screen, after you do this once it should remember the setting so the next time the display is connected it will be seamless.
yeah can confirm, thats what i described aswell but it seems like hes experiencing a bug of some sort where the backlights dont turn off

Not just the backlights, but the touchscreen is also still active, for what it's worth I'd say the display is still fully turned on and just displaying a black image

I misunderstood his post.

Might be because I didn't know the term docking also applied to general PC usage. I'm not really a laptop person and English isn't my native language

well like i said before, the touchscreen part seems "normal" for anyone, but my screen itself is definitly off, no backlight or black image, even in a pitch black room theres zero hints that its turned on (as in screen only, not talking about the touch screen function)
I doubt the touchscreen is intentional because it's the wrong orientation
