5.1 Surround Sound on older 2D games

I did check Windows and it doesnt happen there but I plugin in SD to my AVR and noticed that some old 2d adventure games output to other speakers than front stereo. Mostly they doubling front to surround (with center silent) but on some center is active (like prologic) I checked and AVR was in direct mode. Also on some newer 2D games it was only Stereo, so it's not all games. Does developers just never check what happens on setups other that headphones? Or its pulse audio issue? Also surround 3d games works fine.

Yeah its a default to pulse audio... how can i disable it so i dont have to check if game support more than stereo every time
