Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Steam deck steam link offline idea
I don’t know if it would be possible, but I think that if there was a way to put out a hotspot from the steam deck that could work with steam link then you could easily use something like an iPad to have a bigger screen on the go. That could take the usefulness of not only the portable gaming aspect but as a computer to the next level when you don’t have access to the internet.

Valve if you see this, absolutely loving the steam deck. You guys are killing it.

if what i get what you are saying, i think it means you want the steam deck to behave more like a smartphone, which maybe would need additional components, meaning it would make the deck more expensive, therefore less accessible for more people.

if the idea is to use an external display for the deck, you can already do that without needing to create a hotspot: you can use the dock, and i guess screens that are compatible with usb c.

in fact, im guessing maybe there is software that can allow you to use the screen of a tablet or even an ipad via a cable, because there are a lot of people making stuff to support linux.

maybe this could be useful. i found it after a quick search in duckduckgo (you should use this rather than google, so you can avoid a lot of the "sponsored results" pushed by google, which are rarely useful or relevant):

You basically connect the steam deck to the iPad while turning off Wi-Fi and setting the link local option in ipv4 settings on the Ethernet connection. Once you have done that you will need to download sunshine on the steam deck and moonlight on your iPad, and you should then be able to connect to your steam deck with only slight latency. It’s not as good as an external monitor but it’s definitely a good option if you want to make use of your ipad I stead of buying an external monitor.

dnaremix11 • 9 mo. ago This method works offline and should work with any Tablet/Laptop that has the "Steam Link" app. I specifically cover the use an Apple iPad/MacBook as a external monitor. This also tangentially covers Linux on iPad with Magic Keyboard. It is not without its quirks, but we may see improvements in the future! It is recommended to use a USB-C hub with Gigabit Ethernet, allowing charging at the same time. Corrections: Recommended Bandwidth Limit of 30-40MB/s, rather than 30-40Mb/s
