Valve send me a refurbished Steam Deck

after about a month and a half I had to rma my steam deck due to a software problem, an error that was reported when starting the console.

I received a steam deck in a damaged box, the instruction sheets are stained, the charger has white streaks/scratch that won't go away and the deck have a scratch in the lower left side !

It's insane they received a newer and better steam deck than the one they sent me.

I have written to support that I don't even intend to turn it on as it is in such bad shape, I paid for a new steam deck, I had to return the first one through no fault of mine, I expect to receive what I paid for, a new steam deck brand new, 100% working.

They said they are investigating, and if the console is refurbished have a mark on the box.
Now it's 2 days the support don't reply...

Send that back and demand a brand new one. There’s no reason for them to send anyone a refurbished product when you paid for a new one.

That's not refurbished device.
That's some heavy used device, or damaged in transit.

If it was refurbished, they would replace damaged plastic parts of outer shell.

I'm afraid that if you're making use of your warranty and rma, the manufacturer isn't obliged to send you a brand new unit. They also don't have to repair it with brand new parts, they can even keep your original device and send you another used device that is considered functional. How old was your steam deck?

I have the idea that valves are often sending refurbished variants


I can tell you that I have sent back a total of 8+ steam decks because of the defects

And I have 2 of them.... so I also had to send back that something is not working properly or half done or just doesn't work OR got old version of steam deck with LOAD fan..

In the end I now have a good steam deck that just works well without any bullsh#$t.,... so I think that valve is doing something wrong here with this sneaky trick


They should open another page with ''refurbished'' deck with half the price and short warranty..

Well, that's rough. Honestly it doesn't seem right that Valve sent you a used machine in such a bad condition. Let us know what support says to this.

same happened to me the send replacement that is factory sealed and clean but I see that it was being opened previously and there is edge on the left side sticking out a bit as if the plastic mold was not done well... aaaand I got the black screen of death

Some new ones come like that (my OLED did). All you usually need to do is pinch it into place.

Some new ones come like that (my OLED did). All you usually need to do is pinch it into place.

it is clipped in, it is just the front side sticking out as if the mold was not fitted well or they used a panel from another device right side is nice and smooth but the left has an edge. My right trigger rumble is non existent while the left works fine and I have the black screen of death screen turning off randomly while I can hear the menu sounds but the screen is off to me this is defective unit

Sure, could be defective but that doesn't automatically mean it's refurbished.
