S&box for the Steam Deck

I know this isn't relevant to this board but there isn't a s&box community hub on steam so i thought i might as well ask here.

A couple weeks back I got S&box from a friend of mine and wanted to try it out on the deck. However, It seemed to not load in gaming mode so i switched over to desktop which seems to run fine. So I tried to load up the sandbox game mode and it loads for a long time to the point i thought it was stuck and gave up.

Am I doing this right where i should just wait for it to load or are any prerequisites I have to do beforehand?

Try changing the proton versions a bit, sometimes older version can run games better. I don't have S&Box so I cant really help you other than suggesting this.
