Steam Deck

Asus rog ally
Well I know this probably the wrong place to be asking this lol... I have a 256 gb steam deck but I'm interested in the rog ally due to the better screen and better hardware internally... what are your thoughts? Is the upgrade worth it? Is it a significant upgrade for my games? Battery life does not bother me as I never play on the go and am.always near an outlet when I play

I also hear that asus has terrible customer service and they really have no reason to keep updating the device after a while because one you buy the product asus makes no more money from you because you buy games from steam and launchers lol

Asus is a reputable hardware manufacturer, it's quite normal to hear some negative words, because it's a huge company.

That sounds like a conspiracy theory.

Literally just how hardware manufacturers operate, by necessity.

The Asus ROG Ally is an improvement on the Steam Deck in almost every area. Night and day difference. Sadly it only has 2 and not 4 back buttons.
I've been on the fence all evening about getting one but im watching more and more review videos where you can only get better framerates on the ally if you run low or medium settings... my deck runs rdr 2 on ultra textures with high to.medium settings at 30 to 40 fps. I really only wanna make the jump if the more powerhouse games can be played at 50 to 60 fps at higher graphics settings

Most reviewers are testing rdr 2 on the ally on low presets and barely touching 50 fps which is a huge disappointment considering it's supposed to be almost twice as powerful as the deck

On paper it's an improvement.. I think the deck runs games more efficiently if that makes sense?

Yes the deck at lower watts does last longer on battery and preforms better then the ally. even after a update came out that kinda improved things overall on the ally, it still lacks low watt performance.

Not only on paper. The biggest difference is the screen. A 120hz 1080p that has 100% srgb coverage is a game changer, compared to the deck. This alone makes it the superior device.

Definitely not, no. You get relatively good fps with a low power consumption, but that's it. "runs games more efficiently" may imply that it runs something better, but that's never the case. It gets significantly outperformed by the ally. You will always get more fps with the ally.

I guess it depends on the game and the actual settings. Playing in 1080p is a lot more demanding than in 720p, therefore the ally may not deliver a performance explosion in every game at this res. Also some graphic settings such texture resolution may be more demanding at higher render resolutons.

In some multiplayer games like BF2042, or MW2 you do get a massive performance increase. You can get up to twice as much fps in the multiplayer in MW2. On the steam deck, BF2042 is a sow lag 30fps lag fest even on the lowest possible settings, whilst you can get more than 60 frames on the ally in 720p. That's a true night and day difference.

Also keep in mind that you don't need to play with 120fps to get an advantage from the 120hz screen. Even at 60fps on a 120hz screen is giving you an infinitely smoother experience than a 60hz screen.

yet, no game will be ever able to take advantage of the 120hz display on the ally. yet alone at 1080p. even if you had something able to run at 120hz it would drain the battery quick.

the deck's color space never bothered me, as i think it looks okay.

ROG Ally doesn't have trackpads, which severely limits the library you can play on the device.

If you want more battery, just use power banks.

Then you lack a proper screen which you can compare the steam deck with. 65% srgb looks far from okay.

To Answer the question: Yes

This is a Steam Deck Forum. You will find a lot of hardcore Steam Deck fans that wont accept any other device.

100% worth it plus the steam decks fan are very noisy like a ps4 pro jet engine
you will get better framerate with the rog ally and a more silent system. and like you said yourself a much better screen
plus the most negative thing about the ROG ally is the battery and you dont care much for that so there you have it!

go for Rog ally!

or again i am not bothered by whatever color space is used and if i only use <70% sRGB monitors i am not going to notice anything different when playing the deck versus on desktop.

Battery life does not bother me as I never play on the go and am.always near an outlet when I play

if battery is a non-issue i assume you will be mostly running the unit docked? any external devices? (like monitors)
