Did a Shell Swap.
So I did the clear shell swap for my deck. Everything is working but the screen. I have it connected when I hit the power button I get a light up display but its all black. When the audio comes on its audible. The thing is I can't get an image. I have the deck docked and works fine. I've tried to do the + and power to reset it but only works on dock... So my question is did I break the screen because it lights up black. But I have had this issue before where my deck's screen didn't want to come on.

When it works docked, what happens when you switch to desktop mode? Both screens should activate. In settings / display you can see what is detected. Best way to know for sure I think.

Did you ever find a fix or did you have to buy a new screen? I performed a shell swap and i get no picture but backlight and touchpad work.

This sounds like you either didn’t properly seat the display ribbon cable or you may have damaged it during the swap. An easy spot for the cable to be damaged is at the 90 degree angle turn; if you tug a bit too hard on it the inside corner can tear and sever the traces in the cable.

I disconnected the flex cable prior to removing the screen. I reseated both ends several times. Even cleaned the ends with rubbing alcohol to get rid of any grease in case i touched them. Flex cable was still glued down and wasnt torn, still in great shape. No pins on the cable or clamps are bent. Ifixit is out of screens for the 64gb model so trying to get this fixed.

Ouch, good luck, sir. How does it look? I have always had a soft spot for transparent plastic shells on handhelds. Perhaps we can persuade our reptilian overlords to request an official see through deck from Valve. Yeeeeeeha!

Bought a clear green plastic shell from extremerate and it looks amazing. But it's not worth it as these screens are incredibly sensitive apparently and it took around 2 hours to do. I guess i'll wait for the DeckHD screen to release and grab one of those.

Looks good but broken, check. Okay--well good safety tip. Thanks!

Was there ever a solution

I bought a replacement screen from ebay that came from china. Just now installed the new screen and now i have my deck back. I must've broken my screen when removing it. I probably pulled the screen too hard when removing it or cut something on the side of it as i used the metal pick that came with the extreme rate shell which was a mistake. If you are removing your screen use a plastic pick and go in too far as the pads are like 1/16" wide.

Ok update. I did the shell swap and got it done. Talked to Steam guys about it and they told me I would have every mod I did removed and be charged for the repairs. AKA they would send me a referb unit not mine. I went to my local repair guys and got it fixed there was a hair line crack in the screen trying to remove it. So ya out come. YES You can mod your Deck. No Valve don't want to deal with you tweaking anything. I payed for my own choices but I understand that it was my choice doing the mods. STILL HAVE A CLEAR STEAM DECK THO... lol.

Secondly I now have an ROG Ally and the XG Mobile and that is a new can of worms I'm dealing with due to the newest armory crate update causing massive issues with connecting the Egpu up to the tv. Buyer beware. Hopefully the next update with fix the issue. At least now it connects and if you unplug your Hdmi before connecting it will work some of the time but its not 100% like it was before the update.
