Since the Steam Deck has AV1 decoding capability, any chance we get that sweet AV1 support for desktop in home streaming?

It would be nice for 4k 120hz streaming, thats for sure.

Nah, it isnt since it needs to be implemented on both desktop and Steam Deck versions of steam.

If you use a flatpak app that brings in the flatpak version of mesa as a dependency, you will be able to use av1 since those decode flags are set separately from the one in the OS itself. It won't help you in games, but it will work for videos if you're using a video player app.

Not sure if this is what you have asked about, but Kodi seems[forum.kodi.tv] to utilize AV1 hardware acceleration (post #22).
I use Kodi to watch TV shows and movies from my home NAS via SMB (in Gaming mode too).

It is still about Steam Deck, isn't it. In addition, OP might just as well be running his media player in Gaming mode too, if that makes you any happier.

Im actually talking about using AV1 for the Steam Link feature, not media.
