Troubleshooting & First time connecting to public wifi

Ive had my deck for a few months now but can really only play offline at home. Ive gone to the library and other places with public wifi such as xfinity, mcdonalds, or the library and tried to connect to the wifi there. These types of wifi normally need prompted on a web page to accept terms and conditions before connecting and I havent been able to figure out how to connect. Ive updated my deck to current date at a friends house on their network but i really want to connect elsewhere, especially when im out and about bar hopping etc.
when i try to connect to xfinity in desktop mode heres what happens:
"No secrets were provided"
"connection deactivated"

i click the system settings module for more info and it says this top to bottom:

! failed to update connection
! captive portal detected
! connection activated
connection updated
! failed to create hotspot
connection added
! failed to get secrets
! connection deactivated
connection removed
! limited connectivity
! device failed
! missing VPN plugin
! Failed to activate connection
! Failed to deavtivate connection
! Failed to add connection

no matter what ive tried to do, I cant get it to work. Ive even tried cloning my laptops MAC to connect and that doesnt work.

TLDR; how do i connect to networks such as xfinitywifi? Do i need to install a VPN first??? Ive done very minimum tinkering with config settings to avoid messing anything up but if someone can explain it to me from the beginning like Im dumb, it would be much appreciated. theres nothing on youtube thats helped that ive found.

From a quick search, XFimoty seems to be some special stuff, not normal WLAN for anyone to connect to.

Can you connect there using your phone?

I had the same problems like yours these days , I can connect my phone , but when it connect the public wifi, the login page won't come out. I was able to succeed a few days before , it had a login button on the wifi page , and when I pressed it , the machine opened the login page for me. but now these days, don't know why , it won't come out no matter how i have tried
