Hard reboot after resuming from sleep
Ever since a few days ago, if I put my Deck into sleep mode while a game is open, when I resume from sleep mode the Deck reboots. Powers off, restarts, verifies installation, home menu.

I've also noticed when putting it into sleep mode the little Steam Deck logo animation plays for a bit and then freezes, and the screen stays on for a few seconds longer than it's supposed to.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Side note: I was able to find entries in Intensive Care showing Gamescope crashes. There are three entries for Gamescope crashes today matching the times when the reboots occurred, and there's also one for "soh.elf".

I don't see any information that would be useful to the average person, or any details as to what exactly caused the crashes.

Hello Veica,

I frequently keep myself informed of Deck news and I can say that it is not something known. I would say, either it's a gamescope bug, which should be confirmed by creating a ticket at [1], or it's a faulty Steam Deck, Steam support can help you [2]

Hey Veica, I know this is like a week old and I don't have a solution myself, but I've had the exact same issue for a while. Did you ever get anything from Support? I just opened a case myself, but collab never hurt.

Hey Veica, just wanted to circle back after about a week of 'testing' to make sure. After reimaging /reformatting my Deck by reinstalling the OS from scratch as support suggested, outside of 1 crash right at the beginning while it was reinstalling updates, I've been able to properly sleep and resume the Deck crashlessly since. Really fixed the biggest issue I had with the system.

Reimaging is the last thing I want to have to do. I'm on the stable branch and I haven't even done anything out of the norm with the system. Why does it have to break? :lilimsob:

I was right there with you and I'm in a privileged spot cause my internet's OK, but outside of the emulator stuff, getting the system back up to normal was just a matter of time to redownload the games, but the fact that the suspend actually works now was totally worth it. I can actually comfortably use the system for the portability it was intended for.

I had a lot of crashes and hard reboot after resuming from sleep mode and after reconnecting/turning on wifi

will try reinstalling the OS soon as this is quite annoying when you always have to wait 10 minutes to just continue playing on the go

Just got the dock today and finding the same, when it resumes from sleep on the dock it reboots and does a verify. I guess the only thing to try is just reinstalling the OS and having to set it all up again.

The out of the box experience has been pretty poor so far.

It did that for me on the very first boot out of the box. I connected the Deck to my monitor over USB C and the Deck wouldn't boot, showing "No boot device" on an orange background.
Still does this with the monitor attached and another dock, both when resuming from sleep and on cold boot, I would say at least 1 in 10 boots or resumes will be unsuccessful because the storage simply vanishes.
I have to disconnect all cables and hold the power button, then hope it starts up properly on the second or third attempt.
Quite a disappoinitng experience.
