Steam Deck

Steam Deck

SD card error (card not recognized in Game or Desktop modes).
I used my Deck yesterday, with the current problem card, and all was fine.

I start up a short time ago, wait for game updates to finish, and notice in the upper task bar that the little SD card symbol is visible. So I check the card, and it's not registering any of my installed games, the available storage capacity is only 2.9GB (it's a 512 card to start with, and had something like 20GB left unfilled besides), and it's only showing up in Desktop mode as "mmcblk0p1" (under rootfs/run/media) instead of "primary."

I've tried restarting and that did nothing.

I've tried shutting down, removing the card, restarting, and reinstalling the card, and that did nothing as well.

I've also checked another SD card (Samsung Pro Plus 512GB, same as the problem card) and it reads just fine.

I don't want to mess with reformatting the card just yet, as I've read that this can potentially bork it. Any advice would be appreciated.

Can you open the SD card and read the folders in file Manager in desktop mode? I also had this problem yesterday, steam can't read any games on my SD card, but I can see my game files in the steam folder on my SD card, this steam folder is called steamapps, I open steam Settings in desktop mode, find Downloads, click on the steam library folder, then opened the storage manager and found that the SD card was indeed added, but no games were displayed. I deleted it and added the SD card again, but nothing changed. The steam library did not show any games on my SD card had been installed, so I clicked Install and found that it did not show downloaded games. Instead, it shows that the existing game files are being checked, and the game has successfully replied, so there is no need to re-download it, but unfortunately the previously installed patches such as mods have to be re-installed. I don't know if your situation is the same as mine, but I wish I could help you

Nope, the SD card doesn't even show in any way except the one I mentioned in my initial post (as mmcblk0p1).

I ended up reformatting the card. It registers, for now, the way that it should and I suppose I'll have to just reinstall everything.
