keyboard not working in desktop mode

anyone else had this issue and know a fix. I can't get the on screen keyboard to type anything in desktop mode. I added my bluetooth keyboard and that won't let me type anything either. Customer support has been no help they say we know it's an issue but can't help.

Is it in any text input field or in some particular application? Also, I would in general suggest to reboot the system and try again, but it certainly is a bummer if this issue happens rather regularly (I haven't experienced it myself).

It Can also be because you've exited out of steam. Its pretty dumb but the steam deck requires steam to be running in the background for you to be able to type and use the keyboard.

Open the Steam client when entering desktop mode. If that doesn't work, restart your device.

X11 input just sucks. Add in the weird of the steam client. Wrong application is focused probably.

If you do not need the steam client, I would recommend running the desktop in game mode.

I know it's annoying but there are some things you can do when the virtual keyboards is borked.

- switch between thumbsticks/ touchpad mode by holding "start" (the one with the 3 lines) for a few seconds until you hear a beep and then back again.
- sign into steam client while in desktop mode (again)
- log back out of the desktop session back into game mode and then back into desktop

It's also completely outdated these days, you can't even emulate PS2 titles on it.
