X11 input just sucks. Add in the weird of the steam client. Wrong application is focused probably.
If you do not need the steam client, I would recommend running the desktop in game mode.
I don't think there is a desktop mode for PS Vita
I know it's annoying but there are some things you can do when the virtual keyboards is borked.
- switch between thumbsticks/ touchpad mode by holding "start" (the one with the 3 lines) for a few seconds until you hear a beep and then back again.
- sign into steam client while in desktop mode (again)
- log back out of the desktop session back into game mode and then back into desktop
It's also completely outdated these days, you can't even emulate PS2 titles on it.
