Steam Deck

EA App on Steam Deck
I'm having a lot of trouble with this. I have multiple EA games that I purchased through Steam that simply don't work, they don't show up in the EA app after hitting play and launching the game. I just get a message saying "you don't have access, someone else may have downloaded the game on your device, login to a different account or restart app to try again."

I've tried everything that I could find on Google about it. I linked my EA account with my Steam account. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and verified files. I've deleted proton files and selected "force compatibility" for the EA app and the games. Updated Proton experimental. Yet I still get the same "you don't have access" message when I get to the EA app home page.

Why does the EA app not recognize/not show that I own the games that I definitely do own? What am I missing? I was really looking forward to playing Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order on the Deck but this EA app is preventing me.

Thank you in advance for any help/guidance

Do you think installing the EA app on my laptop might get the app to recognize the EA games I got through Steam?

I'm not suggesting you play the games on your laptop. This is just for verifying there isn't anything weird with their app and SteamOS. I'm also not suggesting that will make your Steam Deck work. However, what it will do is confirm there is an issue on the EA side.

I understand and thank you for the advice. I'm on my laptop now, installed the EA app and still the same thing, it doesn't show any of my EA games in "my collection" or anywhere else, it only offers me the option to buy them there.

Am I supposed to use the "redeem a code" option for them to appear in the EA app, and if so, where can this code be found if I purchased these games on Steam?

The way it's supposed to work, as far as I understand it, is that you're not supposed to use the EA app in any way to play EA games offered through Steam (i.e. your Steam library EA games probably wouldn't be visible in the EA app).

You're supposed to just launch the game through Steam. Steam may start the EA app in the background for DRM purposes, but you're not supposed to start it yourself, either on desktop Linux or through the Steam Deck.

What I would do is to uninstall the game, ensure your Deck is up-to-date, fully power cycle your Deck, ensure you have space to update your Proton versions, verify those Proton installations, and then, finally, reinstall the game (and any other EA games to see if they also give any issues). If it still gives you the error, try waiting some time (like a day) between attempts. I understand it's very annoying, but the game does seem to work for a variety of people, and as I recall, Valve changed it from Playable to Unsupported and back, so it seems like the new app should be working somewhat reliably.

I don't start the app myself, I just hit "play" and the app launches on its own instead of the game.

I have taken those steps, I'm now on day 3 of trying to figure this out. Thank you for the suggestion

Correct, but the games should still show up and work via EA Play. Basically, you should be able to launch it via either store.

The OP cannot launch the titles and they don't show up in the EA app which is likely related.

Yea. I ended up buying the game again but through the EA app this time. It shows now, but I can't launch or play it through Steam, I'm forced to play the EA app version. I updated my Steam Support ticket regarding this, hopefully they'll do something about it as I would prefer to have my play time and achievements on Steam, not the EA app.
