The JSAUX Cooling Fan! Wow!
After weeks of wait while the package made its slow way from somewhere in a large country on the Pacific Rim (ahem), the JSAUX Cooling Fan finally arrived yesterday. I purchased it as part of a bundle of Deck accessories, direct from the JSAUX web site (Google it).
The fan clips onto the back of the JSAUX Deck case, itself a well-designed, well-made accessory (there a self-adhesive auxiliary clip included for folks who don't use the JSAUX case).
The fan mates perfectly to the Deck's cooling outlet port. You can power the fan from an extra USB port on the Deck with the included USB cable. That said, the fan housing also contains a built-in rechargable battery to power the fan for a couple of hours. There's a variable speed control on the side of the fan housing.
The most important thing to report is that the JSAUX fan appears to be highly effective in supporting the Deck's built-in fan in extracting heat from the Deck's interior; hold your hand above the outlet and you can feel the heat being pulled out of the Deck. It can only be a Good Thing to extract more heat from the Deck's interior.
In summary, it took weeks to arrive, and the instructions were nearly incomprehensible, but I'm very glad to have found, bought, and put the fan into use! I've no ties to the JSAUX company, bought the fan with my own money, and post this only in the hope that more folks can benefit from this excellent accessory! Highly recommended!

Snake Oil..

It will end up doing more harm than good.

Baloney.

It's just like my Alienware laptop. The onboard cooling is effective, but it roars like a jet spinning up, and it does so frequently. It senses the internal temperature and responds, because it *needs to*, right?

But with a cooling mat equipped with ducted fans, the onboard system freaks out a whole lot less. The same heat is being drawn out but the internal fans don't have to work as hard to accomplish that. You can tell that's true because the onboard fans roar less often.

It's the same with the Deck.

Look, you go ahead and do what you like.

But as a person who's worked with and around high-end (and high heat-producing) componentry for a long time, I appreciate what JSAUX is trying to do here.

It won't do more harm than good. The worst it can do is make no difference. But, there's a good chance the fan in my Deck will last longer with the auxiliary fan in place, just because the onboard fan doesn't have to work as hard or as long.
