linux doesn't suffer from viruses generally, its mostly a windows problem. Not that its impossible just very unlikely.

The emulators themselves are more likely to give you viruses or otherwise compromise your system than the roms are. Of course if you download from the official sources rather than some random mirror site, you're usually pretty safe.

It'd be pretty impressive to get a rom that breaks out of the emulator's sandbox and infects the host system. Not impossible as similar things have happened with other VM environments, but you have to specifically be targeting that situation.
