How can I scroll with the left thumbstick?
The old big picture mode had a great scroll feature in the web browser. I have not figured out how I can achieve this on the steam deck desktop.

How can I get a scroll feature where holding down a thumbstick, or swiping over the trackpad will trigger scrolling, equivalent to a mouse wheel scroll?

Equivalent to it?

What are you in? Gamer mode or desktop?

If you go into the controller config, and you take left thumbstick there's a "scroll wheel" option but I've never used it. Have you not found that or is that not what you want?

You can go here and I talk a bit about how to enter controller config from desktop mode:

idk how married you are to the scroll wheel. I use my right thumbstick up/down mapped to page up/down to navigate web pages. I don't use scroll wheels this works pretty good.

I use that for big movements and for little ones I use the d-pad which are mapped to up/down arrows.

Yep, that's what I'm doing too as a workaround. I bound page down to the left thumbstick.

I don't really like it, because it only scrolls down once. I also like to have more granularity, pushing down more - more scroll, smaller stick movement - less scrolling.

did you try the treat stick as scroll wheel option? I never tried it. does it suck or something?

You could make one track pad a scroll wheel also I think. I think this might be what you want bc you can flick it fast or slow and it will scroll a little or a lot like a mouse wheel. stick will probably do the same thing with how far it is from center but I would think it would feel less like a scroll wheel.

Here's some more links to controller configs I guess you already know this stuff:

The scroll wheel option kinda sucks.

I don't really want to get a scroll wheel, I'm trying to get middle mouse + mouse moving into one gesture.

I can just bind middle mouse on L3 and then I have my scroll feature when using the mouse, but then I always have to press l3 to enter or exit scrolling. Ideally I want to get this into the trackpad, or left thumbstick without having to click on something to initiate the scroll.

the stick has some kind of capacitive top. Would that help at all (you could just touch the top rather than click it in)? I'm not sure what you're trying to do. I would think that using one of the trackpads to scroll by adjusting the acceleration and clicking it for m3 (m3 is click the mouse scroll wheel in right?) would be ideal but you don't seem to want to do it that way.

so you want to macro the holding down of m3 while scrolling?

i thought there was some way to do that (like do a multiple thing on one button).

if you used the capacitive top as m3 and then used the stick as mouse would that be it? idk for sure if you can do that. 7

Yes, I want to scroll in the same way as if I bound the mouse to the joystick.

So basically I can just set the left stick to "joystick mouse" and the click action to the middle mouse button.

But I really dont like having to press L3 to enter the scroll mode, and then to leave the scroll mode again. There has to be a smarter way to scroll :D:

I tried to be smart and wanted to copy paste the relevant parts from the big picture controller configuration.

When I view the WEB BROWSER action layer, and examine the left track pad, it has "scroll" selected. Not scroll wheel. That scroll doesn't even exist as an option in the desktop controller configuration.

It also has stuff like FS: Mouse Cursorm Zoom, FS: Zoom...

Furthermore, it is called ingame action in the big picture configuration, but style of input in the desktop configuration. This whole thing is a mystery to me :charlottecry:

I scroll with the left stick set to directional pad. I have commands for scroll wheel up and scroll wheel down with turbo enabled.
