How do I get Red Dead Redemption 2 to work on my Steam Deck?

I've searched the forums and Google for how to get Red Dead Redemption 2 working on my Steam Deck, but nothing seems to be working.

Please could anyone who has been successful talk me through how they set things up for it to work.

Yeah, tried Proton experimental.

Now rather than nothing happening, it's loading up Rockstar launcher, but it can't be clicked on to login. I saw a suggestion to install Rockstar launcher as a non-Steam game, but logging in to that doesn't seem to influence RDR2 launching

Can you use the touch screen? Trackpad set to mouse with left mouse click?

No, it doesn't respond to any input.

Even when I have mouse and keyboard linked up via usb c hub, it doesn't respond to any input. I can only close it by going in desktop mode and right clicking closing in the taskbar

because no input can be injected to fill in username and password to log in to Rockstar launcher after clicking "play"

I'd suggest "Steam+X" or the hold Steam button when using the trackpad workaround, but if you are having controller issues then the controller might not work in game either. Have you tried the game in "Desktop" mode?

Probably better to hook up a USB dongle, and use a real keyboard and mouse as opposed to the "Steam+X" option.
