Steam Deck Minecraft: Java Edition
Hey guys,

i've got a question about the Steam Deck:

I was watching many youtube videos but my personal question have never answerd:
If I'm right, there is a chance to install chrome on the Steam Deck. Would it be possible, that I download the Minecraft Java Edition from the Minecraft website? I mean the Steam Deck is working with Linux and there is an Linux Version for the Java Edition.
It'd be nice, if someone tests it by themself and then replies to my question.

You have to use a third party launcher to play the java version of Minecraft on your Steam Deck. I use ATLaucher, but there a few others that people use. I don't think you can actually use Microsoft's launcher under SteamOS.

There's a Flatpack available for the Microsoft Launcher. It works fine and has what you need, but you'll have to go into Desktop Mode to use it.

Is it possible, that you can try it for me? I mean installing the normal Launcher but just the Linux version? I haven't got a steam deck but I want this to know because I'm quite interested at one

Can you explain what Flatpack means?

I went to see if I could, but I don't know enough on how to install it. And considering that launcher probably isn't going to give you access to mods like that other launchers will, not sure it's worth the hassle.

Windows official java launcher doesn't give you access to the mods, you need to use curseforge with it. So I am not exactly sure what you are looking for here.

I don't want to use mods, I just want to play minecraft vanilla. Singleplayer and Multiplayer, that's the reason why I want to use the normal mc launcher and if it's possible to install it on a steam deck.

It would be nice if you could try it for me, but it is not a must if it would be too much effort for you.

Minecraft on deck is possible using "Prism Launcher" which you can find in the software store in desktop mode. There's a good video explaining the process here: https://youtube.com/watch?v=M8oqFUl791Q&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
