Steam Deck

I regret buying only the 256GB version, should I return it
I just realized for only 130 bucks more I would have gotten the exclusive keyboard, the better case, display, faster storage and the microfiber cloth.

Now it feels like I made hte wrong decision, since I really like DEX-85, and there is nothing similar in the point shop.

Please someone talk some sense into me

idk man.

NVMEs are progressing rapidly.

I think you will be able to plug a 1-2TB into it in a year or so for like $100.

Unless you REALLY Want those other features, I wouldn't buy the bigger one just for storage.
Maybe as a collectible or if you need the screen.

I think there's screen protectors that can mimic the anti-glare.

I don't think I need the anti-glare since I bought the Deck for playing in bed in the evening.
Also the 256GB should be enough, since I always install 2 games max. at a time, otherwise I don't make any progress in them.

I just really liked the look of DEX-85 and found out it is not included in the 256 version. I hope they release a similar one in the point shop since I really like the retro-ibm look.

Do you have the 512?

Calm your tits there friend. The keyboard, the case, and the cloth are really just luxuries, totally not necessary, and the latter two can easily be handled with aftermarket replacements. In fact, the case you can probably get something way better than the Valve-provided version. Built-in SD storage, and lots of other little QoL features besides.

As far as I know, the only difference between the storage used by the mid- and high-range Deck models is the actual capacity itself; the performance is otherwise the same. If it really eats at you though, you have options there besides juggling a bunch of SD cards. You can either pop the case and replace, or buy that one Jsaux dock with the integrated NVME slot (if you plan to play docked primarily).

The display is probably the one thing that there's nothing you can do about, aside from just taking a breath and relaxing. It is what it is.

Thank you for the thoughtful response, I honestly didn't buy the anti-glare at first since I would play onl inside and at night, without any distracting light sources.

My "concern" basically only is the keyboard since I figure it is used pretty often and I really would have liked the best-looking one. IMO they reallly should have included it with the 256 GB, but I reckon there is nothing I can do

If DEX85 is an onscreen keyboard? I wouldn't get too attached as a lot of people will probably be developing those in the future at which point you might not like it anymore anyway.

I wouldn't buy a computer/digital assets as a colletible unless u plan to never take it out of the box. I spent $300 on a lol account and it got to be worth like $1k (I won hextech annie on 1st availability) but then I didn't sell it thinking it would go up more and now it's worth $20.

Think about what else you can put that $130 towards, man. If you see a 2tb 2230 next year for $150 you'll be kicking yourself for years.

Trust us, it’s not worth it for the onscreen keyboard. In game mode you’ll rarely use it, and in Desktop mode, it’s so all over the place that you’ll most likely avoid it at all costs.

I actually got a mini Bluetooth keyboard today; just could no longer handle the onscreen keyboard’s random whims.

Oh, and we might be getting new deck items in the points store at some stage.

The extras aren't worth it.
And you can get a bigger SSD.
I don't have anti glare and I am very glad about that.

Different people want different things for different reasons. The exclusive keyboard is really cool, no doubt (256GB user here). If you really want it, order the 512GB model and put your 256GB model up for sale. Since the Decks are more available now you may not get a large return on the initial purchase but you shouldn't have too much of a problem selling it.

If I would buy a steam deck again, I would go only for the 64 GB version and upgrade internal store by myself + SD card.

I would have done that, but I atleast wanted the profile bundle :O

Its better to just buy the 64GB model and a 1TB NvMe, its cheaper than buying a 256GB model. The keyboard skin is really lame and can be easily replaced with custom ones, and the antiglare screen gets fingerprints, and still needs a screen protector that will introduce glare.

It is great that the Deck is so versatile and consumer-friendly, it can be extended in many ways and that to me is unprecedented and awesome.

Artifact

"collectible card game, made by valve, and marketable?!? I am never paying for video games again!!! Bring on the Axecoin stonks."

:prisoner:

On topic dough
(sorta?)
IMO

The exclusives are ok I guess but not exactly worth the price of entry if THAT is your main draw. Hopefully more skins will become available, and the mf cloth is only good if you took it out and turned into a design element. As a screen wiper it is meh. It gets stained and loses robustness very quickly.

The SSD is *now* the least important factor. (unless you don't want to go through the trouble of replacing it, but that does not seem to be the case here) There are/will be options in this space.

The case is legit...
ngl I had planned on getting something better. I was not sold on it when i ordered it but as soon as I got it I was impressed. Yes there are more ergonomic options, harder shells or sleeker profiles. However the build quality on the 'OEM' case is hard to beat for under 70-100 bucks. As people buy/replace more decks or new decks come out, I expect to start seeing the Valve cases to start showing up for sale.
This is turning into a side rant, so tl dr: Also something where there are/will be options
(AFAIK all valve cases are the same outside of the colored logo)

oh no, speaking of side-rants... on to the anti-glare screen.

There is 0 reason to put a screen protector on the AG screen, IMO. It works very well and allows for great contrast at very low light levels while; I've heard, it is good for outside.

If you are worried about the screen (and maybe rightfully so) you should REALLY avoid the AG screen. (yes, you can do it... just like you can put all weather tires on a ferrari or slicks on a pinto... if your particular use-case warrants it) There is 0 reason to go 512gb for anything BUT the AG screen. Everything else can be solved/fixed/hacked/tinkered/worked around. The only REAL premium/exclusive is the AG screen. Don't pay premium just to put a sticker on it 5 minutes later.

Again, this has been IMO, others will certainly disagree.
512gb born in April, heavy-ish use.
