Steam Deck
PCSX2 CONTROLS DOES NOT WORK AFTER UPDATE
Not sure why, after the latest update, pcsx2 fails to recognize ANY controls.

BEFORE it AUTOMATICALLY used and detected ANY configuration. I DID NOT had to select or map anything. Simply added ps2 bios, loaded up a game, done. It worked like that.

Now it doesnt. Even AFTER mapping DOES NOT WORK.

Adding PCSX2 DOESNT DO ANYTHING

PCSX2 reinstall DOES NOTHING

Changing game DOES NOTHING

Restarting deck DOES NOTHING

MANUALLY MAPPING DOES NOTHING ( and it Can't detect half the buttons. When i try to map B it thinks i want to cancel the mapping and exists)

I thought i get archemu or whatever its called, and add ps2 core but suprise! PS2 has no cores on arch emu, and manually adding the core doesn't do it.

I saw 1 post on reddit with this issue, no solutions. Somebody has to know something! i wrote to valve, but no reply for weeks!!!!!!!!!!!

WHATS GOIGING ON?????????????????????????????????????????????????????

UPDATE FOR SOME ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ REASON ADDING PCSX2 TO STEAM AND LAUNCHING FROM DECK OS NOW IT WORKS. Previously i tried this and didn't work. i dont know whats going on
I'm still having this same issue, but adding to Steam (as a non-Steam game) and launching from the Deck OS still doesn't change anything. No matter what I try (in desktop or Game Mode) I cannot get the controller/buttons to be recognized in any game. PCSX2 boots up a game fine, but it just will not detect any inputs from my buttons.
Iv been having the same issue.. been spending hours… tryied changing the pad.ini per Phaux video.. uninstalled .. new bios .. removed from library .. Iam not sure if it the decks lastest update or the emulators… glad Iam not the only one experiencing this! Might try a older version of the emu.. if I can .. new to Linux.. I just wanna play silent hill 2 lol!
Just wanted to say about a month ago this all worked fine.. hopefully they roll out a fix … if you look at the discover store page all the reviews says it’s broken.. so we can’t be the only ones
I was able to fix my issue. It was a Steam update that changed the controller configuration. On Desktop mode, I went into the Steam client (bottom right), Settings, Controllers, Desktop config, Browse Config. Where it had Desktop Config, I changed it to Gampad and hit Apply, then Done. Then, I went into PCSX2 in Settings, Controllers, Controller Port 1, Automap (Top left) and selected Gamepad. Then it worked for me. Something for you to try! Good luck!
This doesnt work for some people because Steam now has a bug that doesnt pass the controller translation layer to non-Steam games and apps.

Just wanted to chime in and say this worked for me as well, thanks! Once I applied the below changes, I was able to use the controller after launching PCSX2 as a Non-Steam Game from Deck Mode.

A few updates to the process for July 2024, as names have changed and were different for me:
  • In Desktop mode, open Steam client
  • Steam -> Settings -> Controller -> "Non-Game Controller Layouts" -> Desktop Layout -> Edit
  • Then select "Current Button Layout" and change it from "Official Layout for - Desktop Configuration" to Templates -> "Gamepad with Joystick Trackpad" -> Apply Layout (NOTE: Once you do this, until you change it back, you will have to navigate around with the touchscreen)
  • Open PCSX2 and open Settings -> Controllers -> Controller Port 1
  • Select Automatic Mapping (top right) and apply "SDL_0 (Steam Virtual Gamepad)"
  • Don't forget to open Steam and change the Controller settings back to the Official Desktop Configuration
  • While you have Steam client open in Desktop mode, Add PCSX2 as a Non-Steam Game if you haven't already
  • Return to Gaming Mode and launch PCSX2!

Bonus tip I found: while running PCSX2, you can modify the controller layout to enable you to pull up the PCSX2 menu:
  • STEAM button -> Controller Settings -> Current Button Layout
  • Select one of the upvoted Community Layouts and apply it; I used PCSX2 Steam Controller Layout by KASCHTELATOR
  • Once applied, go to Quick Settings -> Enable Back Grip Buttons -> L4 and map it to the Escape Key
After that, if you hit the upper left back button in-game, it will pull up the PCSX2 menu for easy save states/configuration! Very handy :)
