Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Issues I've had, and how I fixed them (Slow charging, Always on charging light, battery capacity information issues)
So to preface this, I need to be detailed in part with what I did that may have caused this.

What happened:
I got my steam deck right before I moved, thus I turned it on (Edit: did full charge it), explored, downloaded games, 'this is cool, gonna set my retro stuff up on it, but moving. can't do it now!' and put it away.
I believe I did not specifically turn it off. I definitely did not put it in storage mode. Either way, in sleep mode the battery drained from full to empty in it's Steam deck case over approximately 2 months.

This led to at least 3 distinct and separate issues:
Slow charging (the first 'full recharge took almost 72 hours
Battery capacity concerns ( Fast draining of the battery, battery usage when plugged to charger could not charge, and charge)
Battery charging light & charging details always on (including 'slow charging' message when no cord connected.

SO what I did to resolve it:
I charged it, it took 48 to 96 hours to charge from utterly empty to full (I tested a couple things so this varied a bit.)
Then I used it till it dropped down to the red (10-20%) charged it more (till about 50%) then drained it by using it to zip.

I then charged it fully again. This time, when charging, for the first 45%, it slow charged, took about 24 hours. turned it on, plugged it back in, and it started charging fine till it hit about 70% 2 to 3 hours later (a marked battery speed charging increase.)

At this point, the speed charging was the only issue. I had determined through baseline testing that it seemed the diagnostics for the battery in my system were not calibrated.

Now, the speed charging seems to function fully, as the system is charging while playing games.

Summary & recommendation:
If you do not do things to help your steamdeck calculate it's battery calibration, it will have issues and act weird, both on the charger side (it showing it's charging when there's not even a cord attached) and the battery side (10% power loss in 4 minutes due to not being calibrated.)

Use the steam deck for a solid 4-5 hours, and charge it a few times after playing games. Heck, rerun benchmarks and tune games on it to make sure it's running well, but use it after you get it

So you didn't charge it first before using it to unlock it from battery saving shipping mode?
Oopsie.
