cant open dolphin/folders via apps

i took notice of this problem when i first started downloading things via firefox and clicking the folder icon to bring me to the downloads which didnt work because it didnt bring up dolphin so i had to go there myself. this also applies to other apps that arent firefox. when trying to open something like a link via firefox i cant choose another application other than system handler for some reason since it doesnt bring the prompt to choose something else

is this a common problem?

dont know, depending on what ur trying to do/hack/mod, as a no linux tech understander, u can try unlocking ur system to give u admin/owner rights which might help but also cause problems long term, some game modes u can download via firefox without this work around, but depends...while linux/steam deck help is limited (linux/deck experts and elitist usually dont respond, u should do more research (sadly as steam doesnt provide any real info or details)..

im just downloading files thats all and pressing the folder icon in downloads wont bring up dolphin. this problem isnt only happening in firefox either since it also happens in anything else with an option like "open folder" like emulators or minecraft launchers

i tinkered around a bit andvit seems it just happens randomly. i switched to desktop mode again and now it works but this is really weird
