How much did you pay for yours? If it was below 100$ then it's most likely a fake.
I myself attempted to run a "known fake" 256GB SD-Card (is 12gb real) on the SteamDeck and surprisingly enough it realized it's a fake and wouldn't format it, only gives out an error, so +1 for the SteamDeck on that.
To confirm that your SD-Card is legit, simply google for some SD-Card Fake Testers and let that run on your card.
I personally recommend FakeFlashTest, it's very easy and userfriendly to use and you can find it here: https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/fakeflashtest.html
Stay safe and please report fake cards to the seller!

This pertains to your situation but was not the instructions I found the first time. Let me read the thread to it's end.

This should be read as well... I gleaned most of the information I needed in post #63.
case solved he bought a fake SD card
also walmart allows anyone to sell on their website
Please read my edit above.
Go ahead, just search Google for walmart 30tb drive and read it yourself. And that's just the obvious fake. Fake flash cards are everywhere.
If it was fake, then how is the steamdeck able to detect it as 1,000.0 gib removable media on the desktop mode? that another thing that does not make sense for a "fake" micro sd card. if it was a fake it would not get picked up by the game interface, let alone the steam desktop mode at all. it would have been bricked on the spot and not be readable at all.
and if you do the math or conversion of tb to gb via google: 1 tb is 1000 in gigabytes.
A 1TB microSD card is going to be more than $150 up to $350 depending on specification. If you bought one that was $30 it is definitely without a doubt a fake card. Walmart, like Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, etc., have a 3rd party marketplace where they allow 3rd parties to sell products through their site. You can try to return it to Walmart but it will usually show that its a 3rd party seller and will note that returns will need to be arranged with them, however, its still worth a shot to show them the scam seller.
If you're getting a microSD card, USB flash drive, or other type of external storage definitely but known name brand, from a first party seller directly from them and if possible locally in a retail store where you can physically inspect the packaging to make sure its legitimate.
fraudulent sellers will often try to make them look like a known brand. They will paint them with the same coloring and design, call them things like ScanDisk, rather the legitimate SanDisk, etc.
For example:
SanDisk 1TB which costs $225, which again in this case is being sold by a 3rd party "NGP STORE USA" rather than Amazon themselves, so I still wouldn't recommend getting this.

An Obviously Fake 1TB "Smart Card" for $23 that tries to look similar to a SanDisk, which should be reported to Amazon to ban the 3rd party seller.

Use common sense, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"
That is an obvious fake
They are programed to misreport their capacity which is why it isn't working in Steam Deck. Steam Deck checks the capacity using a program that tests each block of the device rather than "trusting" it has the capacity that the device is reporting.
