Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Using Deck signs me out of PC
Did a search but not really seeing much of anything about this... is there a way to switch between the two without having to put in Steam Guard codes on my PC every single time I so much as power on the Deck?

As long as you're not active playing on the PC when you play on your Deck, it shouldn't sign you out.

You cant run a game on both at the same time, but just powering the unit on shouldnt log you out on pc...

I usually have some sort of Idle game running minimized, that's probably what's doing it then... thanks! I'll just try and stop letting them run if I intend to use the Deck

I turn my Deck on all the time without getting signed out of the PC. Is your PC set to remember your login and automatically sign in? That's how I have both of mine.

In fact, the whole "stream from one computer to another" would be defeated if you couldn't have multiple systems signed into the same account.

Might have been exaggerating, probably was loading a game and apparently the fact that I usually run idle games minimized while I'm not actually actively using the PC might be causing the issue. Appreciate the help!

You can put the deck in offline mode and it won't sign you out

I'm fairly certain I have that box checked, but I will double check next time I close out Steam. I suspect that the problem is I'm technically still using my account because of idle games and that's causing me to get signed out. I'll do some tests and see what happens. Thanks for the help!

Good thinking, I'll try and do that when possible as well. Just got this thing yesterday and just trying to figure everything out. Thanks for the help!

Having a game running shouldn't affect this part of things. Within a week of getting my own Deck I went to show it to a friend while I had Satisfactory open on my PC. It turned on, and signed in just fine, but when I went to show them a game I got a warning that I was already playing something on another system. I forget exactly the warning, but it basically just said that I couldn't do that. Nothing got logged out though.

nope it dont but it sign out of your game if you use Steam Deck also if you want to play both on same time, your PC and Steam Deck then you can put Steam Deck on offline mode + wifi off then you can play on both but i say dont play same game on them

The days of Microsoft are over.
Seriously though, this is very weird, perhaps you should let Steam Support know.

Maybe its just how I game but this has been really problematic for me. If I have a game running on my PC, then use my Deck to play in another room (sitting the porcelain throne, for example lol) it will automatically log me out of Steam on my PC and inelegantly close whatever game I'm playing, causing lost data. I get that Steam has to care for licensing limitations, but there has to be a better way than punishing people who have a multi-device Steam ecosystem.

This happens all the time for me. Here’s how:

I’m running a game on my deck. I got to another game without explicitly quitting the first game on my deck. I try to stream the second game. It then signs me out on the computer streaming.

Likewise, if I stream and hit the power button to suspend, the remote game continues without suspending. That’s fine. But when I resume it doesn’t reconnect. Exiting from within the steam deck doesn’t work either. If I try to launch another game, my streaming machine gets signed out.

There are other ways to encounter this. I’ve ended up signing in again to my streaming PC maybe 10 times in the two days I’ve had my deck. The deck while it technically can stream isn’t well designed as far as it’s robustness.

They really should change the rule to be “one computer and one deck” to make it less a hassle to just pick up your deck and play without having to worry about what the state of your gaming rig is at that moment.

You can play on PC and Steam Deck at the same time while one of the platforms is in the Autonomous Mode

I assume this means offline mode - yes perhaps, but I assume you can’t stream between the pc and the deck? However the deck will allow you to try to stream when a game is open on the deck, which causes the remote device to log out. Ideally the deck should close the local game first before launching the remote, since it can’t launch the remote with the local started.

I’ll check to see if offline mode helps in this case.

Thanks!
