Or a couple hundred thousand dollars worth of milling equipment. Even if you did Linus' cooler is pretty dumb and not what I'd think many people would consider "portable".

Which if you aren't doing what Linus did, I'd recommend going to watch the Gamers Nexus teardown and review videos. Steve does a pretty decent job of explaining why a "clip-on" spot cooler could be problematic for Steam Deck. TL:DR using a spot cooler would lower the CPU temps which would result in a lower fan speed (or worse idling fan) under load and some of the other ICs could end up hotter than their design spec.

Nope

The Deck has a fan, so you don’t really need a cooler. Just let it do it’s thing and watch out for the temps in the current heatwave,

Otherwise, with normal use, just trust the Deck to handle the heat. It’s going to be hot.

I have used my steam deck in 37 C heat and it was fine

You’re right, replacing the fan would be pointless for a heatwave. The Deck will throttle if the temps get too high - it’s designed to.

Now, if you have the “whiny” fan and it’s running really loud right now with the heat, it depends on how annoying you’re finding it - that’s totally a personal thing.

It you’re fine with the noise, and it’s not going all the way to 100 degrees, it’s fine.

Edit: Obviously, don’t stand with it in blinding direct sunlight right now, grilled GPU taste awful.

I bought a ventilation tower with condensation system so both me and my deck got some extra cool airflow.

The Deck will throttle and even shut down to prevent damage to the components. I wouldn’t be using it outside during a heatwave, even Valve made a Twitter post advising against it. The Deck can go to 100c at which point it will throttle. At 105c, the Deck will auto-shut down.

Didnt think of that one. Just buy a room cooler
the steam deck can withstand some insane heat. my deck was on inside the case (by accident) for three hours. when i went to get it out it was HOT and unresponsive. i turned it off and let it sit for 5 hours and then it worked like nothing happened.

My steam deck hit a max temp of 103 C and it is still working and it never turned itself off

I think water cooling it would have been a better thing for linus to do
