Steam Deck tracking still pending in IL
Got my email on the 30th of June, I got a tracking on the 3rd of July, and as of today, it still hasn't changed, and I do think FedEx has done it's run for my town now. Two calls to FedEx, they said they only see it as Pending, and that I have to contact the vendor, messaged Steam a few days after the 3rd, was told to wait 4-8 business days, 9 days go by not counting the 4th as a business day, still nothing. Messaged support, they said they've "reached out to the warehouse for further investigation," no clue if that means FedEx, or the place where it was shipped from.

As of now it's technically been 10 days since it shipped, haven't heard from Support, FedEx sends me back to Valve, honestly have no clue what's even happening or what could have went wrong, since people that got their emails before and after the 30th have gotten theirs no problem but I'm still stuck waiting. This whole thing has left me aggravated each day it doesn't show up and no real update or communication. And this is the only time I've had an egregious issue with FedEx, which at this point, I don't know if they're at fault because as far as I've been told, FedEx hasn't even touched it yet.

Is there anything else I could/should do at this point besides wait god knows how long for anyone to get back to me? The last thing I sent Steam was the tracking after the 8th business day that still showed pending, and another tracking for a FedEx delivery on the same day proving I never got it on the last day they told me it would arrive.

I don’t know how this stuff happens I got my email on the 4th of July and got it on the 11th of July maybe I just got lucky but who knows

Today would be the 7th business day since they generated the shipment/tracking number.

The warehouse would be Ingram Micro in Carol Stream, IL which handles the importing and distribution for the US. If Steam support already have a ticket open with you that they've told you they will investigate then I'd at least actually wait the 8 business days (tomorrow) before following up any further.

You okay with sharing what state you reside in? Dunno if location matters but it'd be helpful to know if it's just mine of if somehow lots more are still waiting.

While I've already messaged them, the 4-8 business days didn't make sense coming from them because 1; FedEx delivers and moves trucks on the weekends, and 2; I have actually seen people post that they got their deck on the 4th of July in the US. If it didn't get picked up the day after the tracking was sent, I get that, but it makes no sense that from the 5th to the 8th that it didn't change at all, it irritates me more that a batch of emails went out that Thursday.

And they also told me specifically "If you're still not receiving the package on 2022-07-11 (PDT), please contact us again, we'll help further investigation."

Notices for purchase look to go out on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Shipments look to get scheduled for pickups from Ingram Micro on Wednesdays and sometimes on Monday. Thats why they say to wait 4 - 8 business days. If you got the notification on Thursday and placed the order right away, after payment clears and validates fraud checks the shipment generates for a scheduled pickup with FedEx, the tracking/shipment will get created sometime between Friday -> Monday. Yours got generated on Sunday 7/3. If it didn't get scheduled for pickup on Wed 7/6 then it should have either been scheduled for pickup on 7/11 or 7/13 (today).

Also, it does depend on where you're located and the volume of orders for that locations regional distribution hub.

I will also say that FedEx as of late has been less than stellar with how their tracking system updates. There have been a lot of people with Steam Deck orders in the US that have reported that their order from Valve just said Pending until FedEx delivered the package because when FedEx generated the shipment it never updated the API that is supposed to update the tracking info in Steam.

Hopefully it either arrives or at least gets updated tomorrow for you,

EDIT: Also forgot that I did notice over the holiday weekend and that week there were some severe storms in the mid-west so if it was picked up and just not updated properly in FedEx's system there could have been some weather delays making it over to the west coast.

I live in the UK not the US so that could also have something to do with it

If it wouldn't have been picked on the 6th at the earliest, why even tell me to wait 8 business days? For context, they told me that on my first message to support on the 5th.

I haven't been going off of the info on Steam, but rather the FedEx tracking which has stayed the same since it was created. (Unless that's what you're referring to, either way. And using the app still shows the same thing.)

Wouldn't do much for me then, since I think it's a different warehouse, and for sure a different postal system.

Did you get any movement on it yet @Bakukirby?

Still waiting nfor support to reply, no movement at all, and it's been more than 2 weeks at this point since I ordered.

Bummer, you aren't the only one either (which I know doesn't help). Hopefully Support is able to get things moving for you soon.

If it helps I don't have a tracking number yet. Not sure what my shipping date is, or how long it'll be.

I'm 99% sure at this point they lost it, only hoping they won't try and shove me to the back of the line...

Valve won't kick you to the back of the line. They will eventually get it resolved for you.

I'm fairly confident that it is most likely a FedEx issue with staffing than it is with it being lost. FedEx noted in their earnings call back in September 2021 that they've been re-routing more than 600,000 packages per-day due to staffing issues. The examples they gave were with their distribution hub in Portland, however, I don't think that is indicative that it wasn't largely impacting other distribution centers.

They reiterated that warning in January that shipments may be delayed due to the Omicron variant of COVID leading to additional staffing shortages.

I've had a pallet shipment for work from the EU that arrived, cleared customs and has been sitting in a FedEx warehouse for more than 2 weeks now without movement.

if the tracking doesn't have ANY updates at all from FedEx, then wouldn't it be more likely they never received it and that it's sitting at Valve's warehouse still? If FedEx had it, wouldn't there have at least been an initial scan that it was received by them? Such is the practice of USPS & UPS. even if not scanned at pick up, i would think it would also have been scanned once unloaded into the FedEx facility. it wouldn't just be sitting in whatever truck went to go make the initial pick-up from Valve's warehouse.

Valve doesn't have a warehouse they use Ingram Micro for import and distribution in the US. It could also be an issue at Ingram Micro for the same reason, however, if the order is placed and the Ingram Micro fulfillment center processes it they will create a scheduled shipment pickup which they should get a fedex tracking generated but that doesn't become active until FedEx actually goes and picks it up. If FedEx drags their feet on picking up the shipment then it would look like what Bakukirby described.

That wouldn't explain why people in neighboring states, some in the same state, that placed their orders before, the same day, and after mine got theirs before I did. Even ones that get emails after the 30th received theirs, from as soon as the round of emails on July 11th.
