The steam deck is similar to the Nintendo switch I know people say to not compare it to the Nintendo switch but it is a Nintendo switch but if it was a PC
I didn’t know if I would like it or hate it because I already have a high end PC but I have to say I love the steam deck
I went into farming simulator 22 controls menu to see if I could memorise a few of the basics and honestly, there's page after page of 2 or 3 button combos that no ones ever going to remember.
Tried V Rising and the scales really off putting.
Tried Ride 4, which is a nice looking game on the desktop but the graphics are pinned back on deck which makes it look horrendous.
Everything I've loaded onto it has had one of these three issues.
I'll probably hang onto it to see if people start giving real world advice on what's practical to play and what's not but until then, I think it's going to end up on a shelf as a rather expensive book end.
Tucked up on the couch or in bed playing some of the stuff I had to sit at a desktop to play sounded really appealing. Portable but not exclusive(can listen/watch a bit telly while gaming on the couch) was a major plus point. Sounds a bit specific but it really was an appealing factor.
Suppose I'm just a bit disappointed that the reality didn't quite meet my expectations.
As others have said, it's not for everyone. If you don't like it, fine. Personally I use mine on my daily commute. It certainly wouldn't replace my desktop though.
Seems they've put a bit of work into the game since SD announcement and it makes it a fair bit more playable than many of the others I've tried.
Only fair that I should mention.
Controls are a lot to get used to for certain games, but it just takes a bit of time for muscle memory and mappinig out controls. There's a lot of experimental games I've installed on my deck, but if I just want to play some games without fiddling, I have a few titles that just work, like monster hunter rise and redout. Generally, action games that were already designed with consoles in mind work well out of the box. I feel like your issue with scale also has to do with the games you chose.
I hear even FPS games like doom are pretty good (haven't tested it out myself) and people made some good control setups for the deck/steam controller that you can download and use. Gyroscope can be hard to get used to, but it can feel natural after a bit, esp when in the setup, they're set to only work when holding down the left trigger (for aiming) or if you finger is sitting on the right analog stick (camera).
the good news is that if you don't love it there are people who will give you more than you invested so that they can love it!
Far too much i want to do and too little free time to do it(even tho I spend more time thinking of what I want to do than actually doing it)
Probably why the gaming has taken a back seat in the past 6 months.
As stated, I thought that the Steam Deck would fill the gap where Im absolutely burst after a day at work and can't be bothered sitting in front of a PC.
Unfortunately it's not quite as simple as that with control and screen size issues affecting so many of the games I own.
I intend giving the hooking up to the pc thing a go but it'll be something I'll try if, or when games like Rust are available on SD.
Not that bothered about Ride4 but it was one of the first I tried and I think it just planted a seed in my head regarding the device in general.
I'm persevering. Small doses of ten minutes here and there but it just isn't fun and I end up turning the thing back off.
All just too much effort for too little reward... Might motivate me to get back on the big screen mind you.
I've been a LONG time gamer in various capacities. I no longer desire to sit alone in a room stuck behind a desk just to play a game. Done that for decades. Being able to veg out and play something where ever in or around my house is more desirable. If I didn't have my PC setup as a full racing sim rig, I would have no need for my use for a gaming PC now having the Steam Deck.
There is nothing wrong with preferring to play on standard gaming PC/laptop. It's just your own preference.
Although I'm pretty sure if something big and meaty hits the marketplace, eg RUST 2(if only) or something similar then I'll be itching to cram some serious gaming time back into my week.
I just don't think it'll be on the SD, regardless of how well it runs.
Nope, just you.
