Cannot install discord (or other applications)

Anyone know how to solve? It refuses to install any extras in the desktop mode. (aborted due to failure. Name or service not known) I am aware of the desktop mode and how to install things, it gives an error when trying to do so.

You might check for an update to SteamOS while in gamemode. It may also be worth trying to switch to a beta/preview branch and see if the issue has been resolved from there.
As a reminder, all applications should be installed using the Discover store, not using the terminal.
I would also suggest installing WebCord, not Discord. WebCord uses a newer Electron base than Discord's own client, which makes it more secure, and fixes issues with some of Discord's features (such as screen sharing not forwarding audio).
