Deck in Case warning.
Guys maks sure not to carry your Deck in the case when it is on and game is paused.
So I was testing Hades and decided to go to bed but I wanted to have little more Deck time in bed.
I paused game and put it inside a case. I took it upstairs and left it in a case.
I brushed my teeth and came back to bed, (5 minutes). I lifted Deck from the case and it was mega hot. Rb and Lt buttons were close to melting and the whole unit was hotter than ever before. Fan was doing overtime and it was quite scary tbh so listen DO NOT PAUSE GAMES AND INSERT DECK TO A CARRYING CASE. IT IS NOT HEALTHY FOR YOUR DECK.

Did you sleep it or just pause the game?

Game was paused. Deck was not in sleep mode.

This is also a thing with the Nintendo Switch. Because the fan is still on and it blocks the air flow because of the case, it will get hot.

Seems like a common problem. I hope that I not melted anything i inside. It was 5 minutes. I sometimes leave PC on and go somewhere, deck is a PC so old habits die hard. Can I put Deck in sleep mode when gams is paused?

Yes?

Do you not understand how the Deck or just general electronics work?

When game is paused everything should be paused. There is no reason for all this heat

My Deck was scared yesterday. I was scared.

I'm surprised it didn't shut down due to overheating. It's supposed to automatically throttle over 100c, and then shutdown at 105c.

When u pause a game on ur pc or console the machine still stays on, so why would it be different for a handheld?

Because it is handled with bespoke software built on linux so it can say to a GPU and CPU when game is paused. Hey, game is paused. Put GPU and CPU in sleep mode. Do not work hard bro. Game is paused.

Yeah, it does that by pressing the sleep button. Steam/SteamOS doesn't have any idea what state of the game is when you just pause the game

That's a problem. Many games doesn't especially limit CPU and GPU load when they are paused. Sadly most which I played doesn't do that properly.

How would you like for OS to recognize that gameplay is paused? If game engine is still sending commands to GPU or CPU is occupied with very fast wait loop then there is no way to tell if the game is paused or not.

When you pause a game the pc still has to render the game world as if you are still actively playing. It does this so when you unpause the game there is no lag and you continue as normal. It’s best to sleep the system if you need to place it inside the case for even 30 seconds.
