Short answer, no.
AAA put so much stress on this machine, I beleive to think it's made for indies.
But even for indies, my left stick used a lot for moving...
it's very weak, I feel it already starts to be gummy.
So imo, after 1 month I can say this gadget is super cool but will be out of order soon.
I am honestly scared to touch it now. What about games like Hades where you need to quickly react to whats going on screen?
Don't let him fear monger you. You shouldn't have to worry about breakage as long as you take care of it like and other electronic device.
This is nothing fragile feeling about the SD, it feels solid and robust to me!
A lot of the problems people are reporting are likely software and compatibility issues with the proton layer along with a janky SteamOS. Everything should be ironed out within a year, imo.
The only people posting on the forums are usually people complaining about an issue. People with no issues are not going to post that they have no issues, usually.
There have been hundreds of thousands (millions?) of steam decks sent out, and maybe a few hundred posts about people having issues.
Vast majority are just as likely to go straight for the RMA.
I mean, judging by the quality of replies to questions like..
"my steam deck won't switch on"
Reply..
"have you tried charging the battery for a couple of hours?"
It'd hardly be a surprise to anyone that most wouldn't even bother asking on here.
"Hundreds of thousands or even millions" Where'd you get those numbers btw?
How dare people try basic troubleshooting before telling them to RMA it.
You're right, if it even has the SLIGHTEST issue, just RMA it. This device should be 100% flawless out of the box.
What next?
"I think my screens dead"
... "have you tried taking the steam deck out of the case?. You might just not be able to see it"
Ludicrous.
There is a reason "Have you turned it off and on again?" is a meme. It is not ridiculous in the slightest when an average consumer says that a battery operated device is no longer powering on to ask them if they have tried fully charging it. That sounds like a pretty logical first step if they haven't.
However, I wouldn't expect someone who can't grasp selection bias to have the critical thinking skill to understand how to troubleshoot anything.
