Steam Deck

Already dead lmao!
Didn't use the Deck for a few days, was working in perfect condition before. Decide to pick it up again today and charge it up. Doesn't turn on at all. Tried the 3s and 10s boot loop, tried pressing the volume and power button simultaneously, nothing. Also what's up with battery just draining on its own? How did this garbage get past QA?

Can I get a refund lol?

You try leaving it on the charger for a few hours?
AceHercules1196 Jul 28, 2022 @ 8:26pm
If you can maybe reinstall steamOS to see if the issue is caused by steamOS corrupting for no reason

If that doesn’t work then you might have just got unlucky and got a defective one which can happen with any device

The battery is more than likely just drained and needs to be charged up to a minimum level before it will turn on.

The battery will drain slowly if you leave it in sleep mode because the memory is still being powered. This is how it works with any device that has a sleep mode instead of hibernate.

If it turns out the battery is actually dead, contact support directly.

Is 24 hours good enough? I've tried pretty much everything besides taking it apart or reinstalling the OS which is like... why? Least I'm hoping I don't have to pay anything for the RMA just to send back a $560 brick.

Well I thought that they might be able to get it to boot to the bios

Maybe instead of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ try some troubleshooting? If that doesn't work contact Valve. Electronics fail. There are millions of Decks produced, there will always be melons. That is why you have the warranty

Same issue here just got my SD on the 30th of July and by the 1st of August its dead. NO LED light no fan noise nothing just dead...… I already submitted a ticket to Valve

EDIT: So I finally got my OK to RMA my SD this morning . So I dropped it off at UPS how that label said. It's getting shipped by UPS ground to Valve in Utah. Rep said it should take 3 to 5 days for it to get delivered. I will update once things change.

Did you try charging the battery overnight and seeing if you can boot into bios afterwards?

Try to power it on while it's charging.

I took my SD out after no using it for a week, and the power button did not respond. I thought the battery was dead, so I put it on the charger once I got home. After an 30 minutes or so, I pushed the power button. The SD turned on with 98% charger. I thought it was odd that is was 98%, and less than 30mins was not enough time to charge from being dead to 98%.

Anyway, might be a bug where the power button will not work if not used for a period of time. I can understand if the battery was drained completely, but should be ok if had some juice.

just tried my SD again after not using it for 2 days, and it did it again. This time I can hear the startup noise but no bootup sequence (black screen only). Pressed the power button a few times, and heard the startup noise two more times until nothing. Put it on charger, and it would only power on after 5-10mins on charger. Powered up with a full charge.

Something is off, but it sounds like a bug that no one has reported or not fixed if was.

I think your IC for charging is dead.... Can you or can you not turn your device ON? It seems a bit confusing reading your post and this thread xD As I said if it is not turning on and at the same time not charging I would definitely open it up and check that charging IC that everyone is talking about because of bigger NVMe. Rosmann just did a video on one that blow up and with that also damaged MB severely. OR just RMA xD

Yeah I have been charging it since Monday and it will not power on. The LED light does not come on. I have also noticed that the charger does not get warm or anything. Before this the charger would get a slightly warm but not now. My brother and I think its the Power Management chip that is fried, which would cause the SD not to charger or power on. So the charger would not get warm due to no power draw. I have not received a reply from Valve since the first one on Monday night. I hope they replay to me soon with the RMA info.

Oh I'm sorry for expecting better standards for an early access brick that I've paid $560 for. Is it too much to ask for a better product when even my phone and PC isn't this fragile or a pain to troubleshoot? I'm already in the process of sending it through RMA thankfully. Shame to admit that I fell for this FOMO when I'm barely using it anyways.

Try updating the ticket. I got my RMA by sending them a photo of me flipping the bird with the Deck behind.
