This is might be a dock issue. I've connected my deck to a dock for mouse use and it doesn't switch off.
The root of the problem is with the way the Deck handles external displays. If I go into the bios and plug the display in the screen does not switch off and I can boot and use the dock as it should be used. Only when the game mode has loaded does the behaviour arise (doesn't happen in desktop mode either) though switching from desktop to game mode will turn off the screen.
Needs a toggle at the O/S level to override the behaviour, no matter what dock you are using. The dock I'm using is here and apart from this issue, which isn't the fault of the dock it's been very good. The audio has the same behaviour, but it's easily rectified if you can see the screen.

so you want config hell where 1 out of 1k combinations work but you have to be lucky to hit it
Gotta be strange to think you need 1000 combinations for control a simple toggle switch which enables/disables auto-switching. How is that "config hell" ?

Choice without transferrable value will lead to those 1k combinations. Future people will believe their choice is better and keep adding more choices to the mix. Sound on Linux is utter ♥♥♥♥ because of this giant choice. Our community have real scars for whatever you are asking.

A good alternative is to code against a theoretical device and be able to discern whatever is wrong with the hardware. All the choices to reduce the amount of q/a coverage such that the cost to support the device is the cost to do linear validations aka reporting your bugs upstream............ I know it sucks to be all the sudden become the q/a point of contact with all the random patience but it is our current model.
Never heard such babble on here before, thanks for the giggle.
FYI, I was not joking about the 1k combinations.

Hannu Sanslovan is the creator of OSSv4. He decided to take a look and try to virtualize ALSA userspace. Horrid.
We are still recovering from these bugs today. 10+ years of complete pain...... Look at the bugs about the steam deck. Many bugs I see on the steam deck can be trace to decisions started back then.
Please forgive me when I personally do not want to live through those times again. I believe hundreds millions to billions were wasted in those times.
Ugh, glad you good people have some money to throw...lmao.
I am not sure what you mean. Steam deck has one of the lowest total cost of ownership handhelds due to steam sales and availability to find parts. Some of us uses it as a travel PC too to save carry weight.
Your instinct doesn't matter to be honest. Many of us are receiving the value everyday.
I am talking to the op about good intentions. I believe the op doesn't understand how increase combination cost can be killer to the community.
Op, you only need 9 other switches to reach 1k combination. 2^10 is 1024. If we have 10 switches, I prefer it stays 10 tests only. For that to be possible, we need to test against something.
