FedEx lost my deck... twice
hi all,

not sure if this is the place to post but i need to vent some frustrations with ordering a steam deck.

FedEx is the absolute worst. steam shipped my first 512GB deck on 7/3/2021. this made it to the Quincy, MA. FedEx Ground facility. this is where the issues began. no tracking updates or delivery after the package was marked as "out for delivery". it wouldn't be until the 17th for FedEx to actually mark the package as lost, and steam support sent me a replacement deck on the 19th.

fast forward to today, that steam deck has also gone missing in the Quincy FedEx facility, and i need to reach out to steam support again. i should have received my deck a month ago, but FedEx won't do ANYTHING about theft.

why isn't valve doing anything to address this? why is it in such obvious packaging, why can't they use any other shipper. this has been an overall terrible experience. I'm starting to get the feeling i won't be getting a steam deck any time soon if they can't actually get the damn product to me.

Early christmas for a couple of fedex workers lol. Did you tell valve support about the second one? That might trigger an investigation.

i did, and i called fedex to report the situation as well. im trying to raise as much hell as possible. anything to get steam to stop using FedEx

Fedex put my deck by my dumpster on my familys farm. I have instructions to put stuff on the porch but he did not want to drive the 1/6 of a mile down the driveway.

Currently going through this same problem, the order was slated for delivery on Tuesday 8/16. No Fedex truck all day. At 7:45pm it was updated as "pending". Waited a couple days and was confirmed by a "Loss Prevention Agent" that my package was lost, but to keep an eye out and that he would call me back on Monday for an update.
As of 10am this morning(Monday) my tracking has been updated to it being delivered 8/16 at 2:05pm. I am livid! I have called Fedex all day trying to understand how this is happening, how communication has been so poor, and how I have yet to be called back yet.
The only information I was given was that they understand the package was scanned onto the truck on 8/16 from a manifest, but the package never actually made it on the truck, riiiiiiiiight. I asked for a timeline or any type of validation that something is getting done here and of course they just told me to wait to be called. GREAT, thanks. Anyways, I bought the deck to have a good time, but it's been a nightmare. About to just dispute the charge through my credit card and take the L on the year long reservation I made on this for absolutely nothing.

Valve needs to ship these steam decks in discrete boxes the same as if they're bonner pills.

this would absolutely solve the issue, i ship macbooks as a part of my work and we don't have a theft issue.

SSDD.

FedEx claims the shipping label was "unreadable" after receipt of the item in Chicago yesterday. Today, my tracking information was wiped from FedEx's web site. I called FedEx and they sais it might be still in the system. I got nothing so far.

I had to open a ticket with Valve. Been waiting 8 months and now this...

Worrying it just happened to me. Supposed to have mine delivered today, but FedEx is still saying it's in another State. Valve really does need to stop putting on the boxes that it's a Steam Deck in the box.

Brown box, with tracking number
Only logistic was the name you could see
And my name and address of course

Went from being delivered today to no pending delivery date. Yeah I'm super pissed.

I'm having problems with FedEx also. I really wish Valve would offer options for shipping besides FedEx. I got signed up for their Package Manager to avoid these issues and it hasn't been any help. It's all lies. They are suppose to be pulling it off the truck tonight for me to pickup at the depot because of all my issues with FedEx, but I suspect their lying again. Will see, I took a day of vacation tomorrow because I think their lying and will deliver it again or say they are and no one was home. Tomorrow opening the garage and sitting out there waiting, unless they actually do call me to come pick it up.

Also, they are saying that Valve is not allowing them to hold at location. I think their lying about that also. Have support ticket to Valve to see if they are, no answer yet. Also haven't heard that you have to sign for it, but the driver supposedly tried to deliver today, before was suppose to (had it arrange from FedEx Rep to deliver after 4pm) and took it back, didn't leave it.

I'm so fed up with FedEx. From now on unless I can get something to go to Amazon Locker or Work, not having anything delivered to my house anymore. I don't care if the package is delayed, but stop lying that you tried to deliver or can't hold at location, or deliver after a certain time,... Their whole Package Manager is a farce, and UPS MyChoice is just as bad if not worse.

Update: Got FedEx to deliver after 4pm, but couple hours later they say tried to at 10:41am (my camera caught nothing), they lied about delivery attempt and after 4pm.. Finally got them to call the depot and take it off the truck. Picked up the next day at the depot. Feel so relieved it is OUT of THEIR hands. Still never got an answer from support if Valve is saying can't hold for pickup. They just said they reached out to the shipper. Luckily after several days of testing, won't have to RMA either. What a relief to not have to deal with FedEx.

Not sure if you were talking to me or just in general cause I'm not getting a replacement and working so no RMA (yet). But YES, agree, if any of you people can, have it shipped to work, seriously. FYI, mine did come in a plain box.

My advice is shipping your replacement Steam Deck to an office if you can. those tend to make it home more reliably as the Kleptos at FedEx tend to not touch business orders.

pretty much, hard to blame them when you see how little FedEx gives them, even in Massachusetts.

I am in the same boat as many of you. My first deck went missing on a truck. My second deck attempt was supposed to be delivered today, but when the truck drove up I asked the driver and they said that there was nothing on there for me. I spoke to FedEx and they said they're investigating it and explained that sometimes drivers will share packages with other drivers to help lighten the load/burden of delivering so many packages. It sounds all sketch to me. Something interesting I did find out, was that the drivers who are delivering the package that last mile to the home, are not actual FedEx employees. If you look on the side of the truck, they're actually like subcontractors that FedEx is using. Because they're contractors, there's a lack of oversight which I feel is making it easy for theft to happen. I'm just hoping that valve will ship in more discrete boxes, or allow us to use it different courier. I guess I'll wait a few more days to see if the missed delivery today was just normal delays, and hope that my package still arrives.
