Need help with Lutris and Abandonware
I am trying to install Midtown Madness. Lutris has an install script that asks for an .iso. I've never used Lutris before.

I own Midtown Madness on a disk but it is not near me, so I downloaded the game files from abandonwaregames but it isn't a .iso

Is there a way to make this work or should I go dig up my disk and rip the .iso? If I do that how do I mount the .iso as a disk?

Is there a better forum for this question?

So stoked to find this thread! I haven't seen this one attempted anywhere else. I must really not be knowledgeable with Linux, although I used to whitehat around with Kali abit but I can't for the life of me get MM working on my deck.

I downloaded the RIP version at abandonware this morning, but haven't tried the larger file yet. Maybe that's my issue. Anywhere I try the midtown.exe It starts to boot up then demands to autodetect video game hardware, flickers, then errors out as no video board, and closes. I'm close !!!

Glad it was some help, good luck to you

Man I feel like I've tried everything now. Can you tell me what you did in steps? I've gotten other old games to work, but this is a puzzler. I must be missing a step you did.

Maybe it's trying to find a voodoo card. People on myabandonware mention a dgvoodoo patch to make it compatible.

You could also check if there is a config file which sets the video renderer. Maybe you can set it to software?

This is what Windows 10 users do:

Yea I actually had tried that last night, but lost on how to run that .sh file related to the game, it states you would run that .sh file and that then runs the game,

Okay might not be that easy ^^. It anyway just sets some parameters
#!/bin/bash # Avoid using the poorly optimized (for Wine) DirectX Renderer export SDL_RENDER_DRIVER=opengl # Enable threaded OpenGL for Mesa # export mesa_glthread=true # Enable threaded OpenGL for Nvidia # export __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1 # Prefer native dinput and ddraw export WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput, ddraw=n,b" wine Open1560.exe $@

Since i like to figure out stuff like this i gonna try it myself later or so.

You can set sh scripts as executable then they will run like batch files.

I'm going to try to list my every move here (Edit to add, I am on Preview build of SteamOS):
00. I might have done a pacman -Syu here
0. From the Discover store, installed "Add exe games to Lutris library" thinking that was Lutris itself
1. Installed Lutris via the Flatpak install instructions rather than the SteamOS instructions (SteamOS instructions didn't seem to work)
2. Download ISO Version 561 MB "Midtown-Madness_Win_EN_ISO-Version.zip" from myabandonware.com
3. From the Discover store, installed "Mount Unmount ISO" and "PowerISO"
4. Right click .zip file -> Extract -> Extract archive here
5. Open PowerISO -> Open -> select MidtownMadness.img -> Convert -> Ok
6. In file manager you should now be able to right click the new .iso and Mount/Unmount -> Mount ISO
7. In Lutris, click the plus sign in the top left, then "Search the Lutris website for installers" and search and select Midtown Madness
8. Click Install, I gave it the default install directory, then it asks for the setup.exe on the disk so navigate over to the mounted ISO from step 6 and select the ISO
9. I believe it then asks for the path to the mounted disk and you can continue through the install from there. If it ever gave me an "Exited with error (xxx)" I would cancel with the option to delete all the files.
At this point I was launching into the intro video but couldn't reach the game, when I did the following to fix it

Toggling "Windowed (virtual desktop)" in Runner Options gets me to the menus! I'm going to add it to Steam and go back to gaming mode and see how it goes.

However the drop down resolution options closest options was 800x1280 - vertical, so it was running at this point but looked like garbage. Then I did this and it worked fine:

Lutris -> right click game -> Runner options -> Windowed (virtual desktop) set to on -> type 1280x800 in Virtual desktop resolution -> Save

Create Steam shortcut wasn't working so I Created a desktop shortcut and added that to Steam.

Currently messing with all the controls but it definitely works lol what a trip. Steam Deck is wild.

Thank you so much for taking the time, going to attempt this promptly after work. Will let you know what happens for me.:steamthumbsup:
