Steam Deck
Need help with Lutris and Abandonware
I am trying to install Midtown Madness. Lutris has an install script that asks for an .iso. I've never used Lutris before.

I own Midtown Madness on a disk but it is not near me, so I downloaded the game files from abandonwaregames but it isn't a .iso

Is there a way to make this work or should I go dig up my disk and rip the .iso? If I do that how do I mount the .iso as a disk?

Is there a better forum for this question?

Toggling "Windowed (virtual desktop)" in Runner Options gets me to the menus! I'm going to add it to Steam and go back to gaming mode and see how it goes.
Lutris -> right click game -> Runner options -> Windowed (virtual desktop) set to on -> type 1280x800 in Virtual desktop resolution -> Save

Create Steam shortcut wasn't working so I Created a desktop shortcut and added that to Steam.

Currently messing with all the controls but it definitely works lol what a trip. Steam Deck is wild.
Someone on WineDB has instructions on getting it working through Bottles.

The final steps might be able to help you out, not sure as I didn't check myself.

It's an old game. All rules to make it work on a modern windows system apply here too.

You are in stage two so to speak. Stage one was making it run. Stage two is making it work on modern systems.

the script should've made it perfect.
Did the game ask for any settings before launch? like resolutions or something

I'm wondering if he set the API properly, since some games do ask for it when starting for the first time. It seems the Lutris script uses dgvoodoo2, so the game should run with Glide API or specific versions of D3D.

Then make a change to the script and submit it. This is a community driven thing you know... :kb_penguin:

I'm just making sure the OP doesn't make the wrong assumption that needing "stage two" or whatever is normal Lutris behavior.

This was my first attempt at Lutris and I have no idea if I did it correctly. It is running though /shrug

I don't even get how "making it run" and "making it work on modern systems" are separate steps.

I'll be trying Midtown Madness 2 next as I saw it had a script too. Might try some other Madness games (Monster Truck, Motocross).

I also want to try Crimson Skies (PC), Nanosaur (Mac), and Wrath of the Gods (Mac). I checked Crimson Skies and there doesn't seem to be a script. I'm not sure it's good practice to work on those in this thread either.
You'll probably need windows versions of the Mac games. Nanosaur seems to have a native Linux version on Lutris though...
Understandable. Some scripts on Lutris even have scripts to make things compatible with modern systems. So it can get confusing.

If you have questions about other classics please post them. I like these 'retro' threads.

So stoked to find this thread! I haven't seen this one attempted anywhere else. I must really not be knowledgeable with Linux, although I used to whitehat around with Kali abit but I can't for the life of me get MM working on my deck.

I downloaded the RIP version at abandonware this morning, but haven't tried the larger file yet. Maybe that's my issue. Anywhere I try the midtown.exe It starts to boot up then demands to autodetect video game hardware, flickers, then errors out as no video board, and closes. I'm close !!!
