Steam Deck

Battery Health question.
I've had my Deck for a bit less than two weeks now, and I've noticed something about my battery health that I'm not sure if I should be worried about or not.

Currently, my battery health is listed at 79%. My normal (daily) usage is to play for 4-6 hours with the Deck plugged in--though I sometimes play for longer on the weeked--and it's only plugged in when it's actually in use. I don't know that it matters, but my performance settings are as follows:

Framerate Limit: 40
Refresh Rate: 40
Half Rate Shading: Off
TDP Limit: Off
Manual GPU Clock Control: Off
Scaling Filter: Linear

So before I freak out and start doing some arcane recalibration thing or reach for the RMA button, is this a problem?

Edit: So I did the recalibration steps, as outlined in this post on the subject of battery health, but I still got 79% afterward. However, I shut down the Deck, powered it back on, and checked again to see my battery health had gone up to 89%. Did that a second time, got up 91%. Doing so a third time, up to 92%. A fourth time, up to 94%. Fifth time, 95% and no higher after that.

So I guess it was just reading improperly after all, that's a load off of my mind. Though now I'm noticing that the battery icon (which I have set to show the charge level as a numbered percentage) consistently stays at 99%, but checking the ... menu indicates that my capacity is 100%, my time to full is -0m, and the energy info center on the desktop shows current charge at 100% as well. Maybe the recalibration is causing this to (finally) register whatever the Deck is doing to prevent overcharging at full capacity?

(I'm not trying to be spaz about this, lol, but I have lost a few devices to battery issues in the past, and considering that this Deck costs more than any three of those combined, I'm looking to make sure that it lasts as long as possible.)

To be sure it's not mis-reporting the battery, discharge it fully (unplug & play it), then charge to full & recheck the battery health. It may be in correct percentage or if it's health percentage drops lower instead of reporting 100, it could be a bad battery needs RMA.

Go to desktop mode and the bottom right corner is a battery icon, click on it for more information and it will show battery health.

To slightly expand this answer, your battery icon may be hidden. If so, then pick the little upward-pointing triangle icon to show the hidden icons, and the battery will be found there.

Support will have you go through the recalibration as a first step anyway. That being said, I do think some Decks are shipping with the battery uncalibrated and there have been RMA's due to just bad batteries. Try the recalibration. If it doesn't increase the health, contact support.
