Stop using FedEx or change your shipping box design.

It would appear my Deck has been "lost" by FedEx, which is something I've experienced multiple times in the past when something expensive is shipped to me through them. Do a google search for "steam deck fedex" and you'll see thread after thread of people reporting that someone at FedEx stole their deck.

FedEx is notorious for this now, and it doesn't help that the box the deck ships in has logos on the side, and a label, explaining *exactly* what is inside the box. This makes deciding what to steal extremely easy for FedEx thieves.

Valve, what is u doin. Ship the decks in nondescript boxes. Don't put on the label "Steam Deck 512GB". I know you have to include the lithium ion battery sticker on the outside which also tells people "here be loot", but at least with only that sticker the would be thieves don't know if it's a $6000 laptop or a $60 Chinese tablet. They have to take a risk and open it to see if it's worth anything. Why make it so easy for them by slapping "steal me" logos on the outside?

It's amazing to me that dozens if not hundred of people involved at Valve looked at the design of the box the Deck ships in and said "Yeah, no problems here."

It must be a US thing because nowhere on my box does it say Steam Deck or the model.

The box has the companion cube logo and the Steam Deck logo on the side without text and most people don't know what those are.

The box is completely plain, uninteresting and not noteworthy at all.

Edit: What does it say on your box? Does it say Steam Deck on the label?

My 512-deck came also in a "nondescript" box to germany. But the sender adress on the shipping label says "Valve Corporation". You can't change this.

Just checked mine, and UK/Ire and EU have identical boxes then.

My shipping label says "Valve Corporation" on it in pretty small text; someone would definitely have to be looking closely at it, and obviously know what shaped box to look for.

My old box, on the end, it has a small white sticker that contains the barcodes. Slap bang in the middle is the model number. It also has the cube and steam logo printed on the side. The main address label i cant access right now to see how that is.

The model number 1010 literally tells you its a steam deck. The controller and link have different model numbers...

Yeah this reflects the images I've seen of what gets shipped in the US. A steam logo and companion cube on the outside of the box. As well as the version of the steam deck on a label.

Contact Steam support. The hard truth is, it's the price what matters. And apparently, dealing with FedEx' ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is cheaper, than using another service. I got mine shipped by GLS which screams "discount crap" from the top of its lungs but that's the cheap option.

Ah thought as much, the same thing went down with the steam link way back, so this is not at all new.
i'm not sure Valve can do anything about the labels and the needed data, sure they can change the box shape/remove the steam logo but the issue remains with the labels and that's a tough cookie to crack.
Regarding shipping, Steam Decks will still go occasionally missing no matter what company they use id say.
Its impossible to get a 100% service with so much demand.

The drivers don't see that part, and apparently drivers do a lot of the theft.

Just saying, valve gains nothing by putting logos on the box that make it in any way easier for people to steal.

he then spots a very expensive device and decides to steal it

Then when its investigated he will say that he made a mistake and delivered it to another address, as this is his 1st mistake of the year, he is let off

So the dishonest courier driver earns himself a much wanted steam deck for free.

On gogle GLS has a solid 1/5 star. But for me, I have received many things with them, steamdeck, gaming chair, office desk, imports from germany, tyres, etc etc.

Never had a bad experience.

Currently going through this same problem, the order was slated for delivery on Tuesday 8/16. No Fedex truck all day. At 7:45pm it was updated as "pending". Waited a couple days and was confirmed by a "Loss Prevention Agent" that my package was lost, but to keep an eye out and that he would call me back on Monday for an update.
As of 10am this morning(Monday) my tracking has been updated to it being delivered 8/16 at 2:05pm. I am livid! I have called Fedex all day trying to understand how this is happening, how communication has been so poor, and how I have yet to be called back yet.
The only information I was given was that they understand the package was scanned onto the truck on 8/16 from a manifest, but the package never actually made it on the truck, riiiiiiiiight. I asked for a timeline or any type of validation that something is getting done here and of course they just told me to wait to be called. GREAT, thanks. Anyways, I bought the deck to have a good time, but it's been a nightmare. About to just dispute the charge through my credit card and take the L on the year long reservation I made on this for absolutely nothing.
