Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Touch screen suddenly stopped working on Windows 11
So I have JOYXOFF, SWICD and Steam running in the background. Touch screen was working fine as of this morning. My deck died when I was in the middle of a game and when I turned it back on it was on a blue windows recovery screen. I selected the option to restart and straight to windows. But my touch screen is no longer working.

When I check device manager I see errors: https://imgur.com/a/d7WLziu

Not sure which is for the touch screen if any. I did uninstall and reinstall the driver under human devices, still showing the error.

reinstall the os if it was working before.

maybe a new windows update broke it. if thats what happened, you will experience similar issues later, unless you disable all auto-updates, but thats usually not enough. maybe you should try luck running windows ameliorated to avoid forced updates from microsoft.

I didn’t have any updates? Like I said it was working fine until my deck died earlier today. Also wouldn’t reinstalling mean wiping my ssd? I don’t have a spare drive or anything to reinstall/copy from.

I replied to this on reddit.

If Windows didn't download some hidden driver or device updates and tealth install them (you ARE using "Shutup 10", aren't you??), try enabling Battery Storage Mode and see if that fixes anything.

I didn’t see your reply there. What’s shut up 10? I haven’t made any changes to windows except turning on high performance mode for gaming to my knowledge. I’ll try battery storage mode and update you

Looks like this is a hardware video. This is a software issue.

I'd recommend you plug in (with a USB dock) a regular keyboard/mouse, then go through the process of uninstalling and reinstalling the Valve drivers. That should clear up any issues if its driver related. BUT in my opinion Windows 10 is a crime and Windows 11 is just MacOSX, but I'm old and remember when M$ a lot less sh*tty and a little less evil.

Also check to see if you have any restore points from just before the crash. Since windows 10 runs perfectly smooth from an SD Card I recommend you pickup a spare 256gb card for like $20 and through an image of Win10 on there. Also, Falkentyne is spreading some truth sauce about "shut up 10" (https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10) You really should NOT be running 10/11 without it.

I don’t have a mouse and keyboard and I’m not getting one until we move. I’m in a townhouse rn. I already have windows 11 on an SD card, I switched to ssd because it’s way faster and I don’t use steamos nor will I ever use it so no point not using ssd. But what does shut up 10 do? I may get that if it works on 11.

Shutup 10 allows you to disable a bunch of telemetry and automatic updates and other BS in windows 10 and 11.

https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10

Another nice program is windows update blocker.
https://www.sordum.org/9470/windows-update-blocker-v1-7/

This allows you to keep windows update disabled, because when you disable it just in the services setting manually, a protection service often re-enables it randomly and then windows often starts downloading stuff in the background when you reboot sometimes. This tool disables the protection service and then forces a permission change which prevents the protection service from re-enabling itself (which would also re-enable the main update service too).

Got you, yea I’ll get that now. Thanks
