While you're right to be concerned, your situation is not necessarily hopeless.
It is well established by now that the algorithm for passing customer details from GLS to Evil is fubar. You will probably find that your house number is the sole entry on the next line.
Some people have found that setting an account up with Evil and installing their mobile phone up allows you to officially redirect the parcel to a known parcel pick-up point.
This doesn't mean that it WILL be delivered to your chosen pickup-point but it does remove the "Address did not make sense" as any kind of "valid" excuse.
That's how mine arrived - bonkers address, I redirected it to local pickup point but the driver dropped it in front of my door, took a photo, and ran.
I'll admit that my Deck did seem to spend an inordinate amount of time travelling from GLS to Evil, and that GLS listed a tracking number next to ParcelForce (which briefly raised my hooes) but I seem to have had one of the better delivery experiences 😱
As usual, best wishes to everyone awaiting a Deck - and reassurances that some of them DO end up in well-deserving customer's hands.
Personally I am inclined to think Valve should issue a £10 voucher towards a Deck Verified game on steam, as a gesture
I failed to wait and ordered a cheaper third-party unit from amazon (which arrived quickly and reliably).
Likewise. At this point I wished I'd pay £100+ extra to a reseller who'd use DPD. Ironically I didn't because I wanted the security of buying direct from Valve. Boy do I feel stupid. I will never make this mistake again when ordering something of a considerable value; make sure it is DPD. The stress of worrying about it being stolen and all the hassle that will follow. So so disappointed after a years wait. I'm sure current owners who received their decks are thinking it is an over-reaction, if I want to gamble £350+, I'd rather do it in a casino.
Not an overreaction at all
In layman's terms that translates to . Your Steam deck has been stolen and we will not admit to it, so please wait 8 working days whilst our staff sell your deck on eBay .
That was my thought as well. It would be good if we just had to contend with good old fashioned incompetence rather than targeted dishonesty.
I still don't like the idea of Evri shipping anything to me that costs more than 20 quid though.
I hope Steam decides that other options are needed to support a business-as-usual shipping route for an off-the-shelf product. Even to start giving shipping options e.g.
Free shipping for those that like to gamble
£5.95 shipping for those that want to receive the product
Interesting. I assume you asked for a refund rather than risk the third one going missing?
When my second one went missing Steam insisted I had a refund, and I had to do a bit of special pleading to be allowed to have my order re-opened. Lo and behold, the 3rd one has gone missing as well. The latest I have from Steam support is the option to either have a full refund or they will discuss "other options" I'm assuming that other options means another carrier possibly at my expense, but we'll see. Although I would like the record to show I'm open to Steam paying for my first-class travel to the Netherlands (possibly with an extended stay in a 5* hotel) to pick a Deck up in person if required. :)
Needless to say i phoned the woman and she had no idea Evri had even received it and the tracking had not been updated in 11 days and still said it was in the Netherlands.
I've e-mao;ed her a picture of the box with the 2 labels and she contacting GLS and Evri to see if it can be collected from me and delivered to the right address. I dod suggest sending it via another method but she said she wouldnt be covered if it got lost via the alternative method.
EDIT: My steam deck was delivered about 2 hs ago. When I got the message "we're sorry we haven't been able to..." I was extremely concerned, and thought "and now it begins the hassle", but thanks God evri delivered 11:35am. 🙏🏻
