Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Anybody else getting “Cloud Out of Date” errors (incorrectly?) ?
Over the last few days, I have noticed that ANY games which I play on my PC, before then playing on my Deck will throw a “Cloud Out of Date” warning saying:

“You played x on Desktop (at time), and that save is not yet in the cloud (upload not started)”

- If I cancel launching the game, the deck will show a “steam cloud: out of sync” on the game page but will not enable me to force a re-sync

- If I launch the game despite the warning, from everything I can tell the game will have my latest save from my PC/Cloud and I am able to use it without issues. The error also resolve after then exiting the game

- On my PC I do not get any errors/issues and triple confirmed my cloud saves are uploaded without issues

Given the above, it does appear to me that the warning I get on the deck is incorrect/false positive and my saves are actually syncing correctly

Anybody else facing this and has found a solution? This isn’t a huge issue if the saves are actually syncing correctly but the prompt is annoying and I worry something isn’t fully right on the cloud side because of it

Thanks!

I disabled cloud saves on my steam deck for all my games to avoid this sort of problem. I don't plan on crossing over though, if I play a game on the steam deck, i'm fine with those saves being only available on the deck.

I would if I used my deck in the same way; but crossing over between Deck and PC is the main way I use mine!

I played The Shapeshifting Detective last night on my PC, my Steam cloud save synced successfully, but on Steam Deck I get the (seemingly incorrect) warning that my save on another device hasn't synced yet. I'm early on so if it gets ovewritten it's not a huge deal, but this is not the first time the issue has happened.

Similar to the OP, I'm not willing to disable steam cloud saves on my Steam deck as switching between my PC and Steam Deck is one of the main selling points of the Deck.

This isn't an issue with the underlying OS, nor is it any reason to switch OSes. Also, it has no negative repercussions, you just have to accept the warning and then everything is fine. I'm assuming it will be fixed soon.

It would take a lot more than that for me to suggest anyone give up the wonderful SteamOS Holo experience for a far inferior Windows-based UI on a handheld gaming device.

Yeah, I've also been having this issue for few days now with Steam Deck (latest preview release)

Games sync fine without errors between my 2 Windows PCs but once I play on Steam Deck, my other PCs start giving me "Cloud out of date" error in library, the interesting thing is even if I ignore the error and click play, my cloud save is still there from how I left the Steam Deck. It's just a false error message

Yes I am having this same issue. I was wondering if it was related to my SD Card that I have all my games installed on and maybe the speed of the SD Card is causing the issue?

Anyone else having this issue seeing it from games on their SD Card? I might test this weekend with a game installed not on the SD card and see what happens.

I've been having the same issue. And for the genius who suggested just installing windows would fix the issue, Steam on my windows computer frequently tells me my steam cloud data is out of sync when I haven't done anything to put it out of sync in the first place. In the case of the windows stuff though, clicking "retry sync" will remove the error where the steam deck falsely reports that the PC cloud data isn't even uploaded yet.

The Windows side of things has been going on for a few months with random games just deciding that the cloud data has changed when it hasn't. I only really notice the steam deck error when I have actually uploaded a new steam cloud save and then go to continue on the Steam Deck.

I've been having this same issue, makes the steam deck a whole lot less fun. Just tested it too; was playing Sonic Mania just fine on my deck, played it for a moment on my PC, and now I'm getting the error on my Deck despite no issues prior. I really hope this gets fixed or a solution is found.

Cloud saves work fine, you just have to make sure cloud its correctly synced. Before launching the game, just click on it, and check if it says that cloud is updated or out of sync. If it's out of sync, just click on retry sync and it will sync no problem. I do that every time and I have no problem with my cloud saves (using 3 different pcs and the deck).

Yeah that used to work sometimes, but recently I can't even click the bar that says it's out of sync.

Then there might just be a problem that the client can't reach the server's for whatever reason

I'm having this issue also. My deck is syncing to the cloud, but my PC doesn't believe its sync. When I go to play a game it tells me the last time I played the game which is accurate, the save shows up in my cloud saves, but the PC just doesn't want to sync it. I've done some troubleshooting to my network, tried disabling a re-enabling cloud saves, etc.. I followed the support guide as well. Nothing is working. When I go to play the game on PC it says the app is running, which it is not. I can't seem to get around it at all without the cloud save errors. I understand some games don't support cross platform cloud saves, but the games I am playing seem to as they have synced in the past after either rebooting the PC or Deck.

The issue I'm having is different. The Deck says my PC is out of sync with the cloud, even though my PC where I last played the game has successfully synced. Clicking the "Out of sync" text on the Deck, which usually forces a sync, does nothing in this case (which makes sense, since it says the problem is on my PC). I believe that's because the Deck only THINKS there's a new cloud save, but really it's got the latest one. Rebooting the Deck also does nothing to fix the warning.

Waiting a while will often work... later or the next day it often no longer says the cloud is out of sync.

However, just ignoring the warning also works. Playing the game, despite the warning, proves that my latest cloud data was already on the Deck, the warning goes away after playing without any side effects. This seems to be an issue with the Deck thinking something is out of sync when it's not.

That may not be the same as everyone else's issue, but that is consistently what I'm running into.

This hints to that the Process of the game is still running in the background. If you open the Taskmanager you should be able to see that.

That's the thing, it's not. I figured out how to do it a little while ago. I had to re-open the game on the deck, then close it, then when I ran it on the PC it finally synced up. Shouldn't have to do that sorta thing.
