Faceplate defects
Wondering if any other Deck owner are having this issue.

I RMA'd my Deck because of this and it has returned on the new one. Friend of mine stated this is not and issue on his, but maybe I am just this unlucky.

I originally thought it was an issue with the analog plastic, but its actually the faceplate doing this, as I bought replacement analogs from iFixIt only to result in the same areas.

While the analog functions normally, there is friction in those areas that are marked dark.

so what is the problem exactly?

The runoff of the stick. Mine did the same and it made the stick feel "crunchy" when rotating it to specific directions.

OP, how I fixed it was simply take a wood toothpick and scrape it off the stick. Mine hasn't had it happen again since I did that.

Thanks @KittenGrindr, I'll give this a try.

That almost looks like "mouse scum".

Sure it could be from the plastic ( I do not doubt you, I've seen similar effect on non-Deck plastic parts). But even with nominal palm perspiration & time playing, it could be an effect of combining of sweat (which is slightly acidic) and the friction (heat/pressure) against the plastic hub.

That might be a new FAQ entry, how to prevent stick debris? wash your hands and talc up like you're about to play billiards or bowling.

If we need to put that into FAQ then we have much bigger problems :steamfacepalm:

I was able to clean it mostly off with info provided, so thank you for that. Now I'll have to test to see if it returns, in a manner that gives friction again. Hopefully not.

It's plastic. Mine had it out of the box.

Mine had that out of the box
And it has a large 1” crack down from the joysticks hole from new too.
It’s been working fines for about a month, nothing has gotten worse, it doesn't affect play,
So I’m keeping it as it is, No RMA for me.

Mine has returned after cleaning...this is very annoying.

I have the same issue, RMAed my unit but the new one has the same problem.

I've had this happen aswell but a quick clean of the stick with a q-tip fixed the crunchy feeling

Hoping after X amount of plastic rubs off, it will go away. Only time will tell.

I just noticed mine came back but not near as bad as it was the first time. It just seems to be one of those wear down things.

Like the stuck 'B' button.

Found that using fine sand paper on the faceplate analog stick ports resolves this issue 100%.
