External keyboard language
In my country we type with azerty keyboard. I have changed the inmenu keyboard correctly to this input language. That is not the problem. But it does not correctly take over that selected language when i use external keyboards (bluetooth nor cabled). Only when in desktop mode does my external keyboard have the correct azerty input(after i changed it in settings)

Did you check archwiki linux webpage for possible fix? It's an interesting problem. You could ask Valve to include it in the next OS update if the solution isn't found there.

They told you to post on the thread which didn't exist before you posted it :acleap:

That said, you should post such stuff on the bug forum. And first check if anyone else already posted it.

You should post this in the Bug Reports subform imo, although I'm sure Valve will probably also see it here.

No, he precisely replies for "gaming mode" in this post, so I have a bit of hope :)

Then... +1

I have a Logitech MX Mini with German layout, connected via BT. In desktop mode all buttons are correctly set, after I configured the German layout in the KDE settings. The onscreen keyboard in gaming mode is also set to German, and I get my umlauts (äöü). BUT the Logitech unfortunately has the US layout in gaming mode, so password entries are very hard to type in!!

Please Valve fix this issue, your are my last hope ;)!

In the end, no solution came from this reddit user. Valve seems indeed the only one that can fix it.

+1 same Problem, you cant change the keyboard Layout of external Keyboards in game mode
Papa Van Gogh Oct 31, 2022 @ 1:28pm
Same problem here. We need a fix. plz
We found a working workaround here

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/SteamOS/issues/798#issuecomment-1290320900

But I advise you to read from the link I post to the end

You have to define 2 environment variables XKB_DEFAULT_LAYOUT and XKB_DEFAULT_VARIANT in /etc/environment to allow gamescope to initiate a session with the expected keyboard layout

But beware, setting them incorrectly may render your Steam Deck unbootable.

In case you failed I also posted directions on how to recover from the mistake, I also posted a method to check if the variable will crash gamescope, could be handy to test them before to boot

Having the same issue. Would be great to have it fixed, because it's an obvious bug.

I got this fixed easily. Install decky loader (google it, not hard at all) and install the plugin "klang" so you can select what kind of layout you want for the external keyboard.
