which one would be better? (DECK) or (1650 LAPTOP)
so im thinking of getting a steam deck but im gonna probably use it as a handheld
+desktop as well, but before i get it, i want to state that i can buy a laptop with a 1650 for the deck (and i have a monitor to eliminate the gpu holdback optimus for the laptop when im wanting maximum power.)

which one would perform better gpu wise and cpu wise?

i want something to play steam games on. both of which cost the same where i am at so its either one or the other for me, in which case i want best performance.
1650 laptop is almost twice as powerful as a Deck.

Hi, I own a Legion with i7 7700 and gtx 1050ti that is a gpu very similar to 1650gtx and the Deck it is a better on graphic, and the price it is lower but you can really play only steam games, if you try to install games from Epic, Ubisoft and other stores, it is really complicated get ilthese works, trust me. I suggest to evaluate if you prefer play on a mobile Device despite limitati on on game compatibility and other issue, or if you prefer a lower setting but install all you want. Please does not consider the steamdeck as a portabile pc, it is hardware pc but software different and not so easily to adapt to Others flatpack.

1650 laptop should perform better but it will also be a lot more expensive

My 2 cents.... If you want a single device for productivity and gaming, get a laptop.

Totally depends on your personal requirements, so it's not a difficult decision to work out which one suits you.
You don't really need to ask other people which one you need.

The laptop is way more powerful, but it's too big to hold whilst in the toilet/car/plane/canteen/cafe/bed or anywhere else its just not convenient to get the laptop out.
I mean you could be having sex and still be gaming with a Steam Deck?
Unless your partner doesn't mind you using their back as a gaming desk? :) :)

like others have mentioned, "what is your use-case(s)?".

use some paper or a spreadsheet to list out and weigh the pro/cons from hardware repairs, os longevity, user applications, your technical mojo, folks gaming reports, locations of use, FSR scaling, what kind of games do you play, etc.

But then you need to do the physical comfort evals - you're a human, not a robot, right?

* use a Nintendo Switch with extra weight taped to its back. How does it handle? Can you comfortably use the screen?
* grab a 3lbs large format book, set it on a heating pad (on medium setting) on your lap.

The machine's performance won't mean a thing if you're not comfortable using it in a mobile -way. Otherwise, you're just stuck another desk/table.

You do what "feels" right for your mobile gaming, else you won't be enjoying your games.

i guess im going for lappie, i dont mind the less portability, its still mobile, and also it would be nice to use it for programming and 3d modelling.

You don't really need to ask other people which one you need.

i was kind of hoping someone with a deck would give an estimate in their experienced performance of the deck vs a gpu similiar to 1650

You can't JUST compare the GPUs. There is a whole bunch of factors for comparing them.

The biggest being how important is being able to play anywhere?

The laptop has better performance. The Steam Deck is a work in progress so it will be buggier. It also doesn't have much storage, so you'll have to buy SD cards. Then there is the lotto of getting the good fan or not. All in all, there I'd say the laptop is better on paper.

But there is something magically fun about playing games on the Steam Deck that is hard to quantify. It's a unique way to experience these games which makes them feel new again.

If I had the option to choose, I would pick the Steam Deck again. But I also already have a more powerful desktop computer, so that factors into it as well.

i know, but i really want something that will last me a long time in terms of 30 fps stable on the latest aaa games, as even tho 400-500 may not be much, it is for me lol. if the deck can do that for 4-6 yrs then for sure id buy it instead probably
