i only play steam anyhow :D
i want something to play steam games on. both of which cost the same where i am at so its either one or the other for me, in which case i want best performance.
My 2 cents.... If you want a single device for productivity and gaming, get a laptop.
You don't really need to ask other people which one you need.
I mean you could be having sex and still be gaming with a Steam Deck?
Unless your partner doesn't mind you using their back as a gaming desk? :) :)
use some paper or a spreadsheet to list out and weigh the pro/cons from hardware repairs, os longevity, user applications, your technical mojo, folks gaming reports, locations of use, FSR scaling, what kind of games do you play, etc.
But then you need to do the physical comfort evals - you're a human, not a robot, right?
* use a Nintendo Switch with extra weight taped to its back. How does it handle? Can you comfortably use the screen?
* grab a 3lbs large format book, set it on a heating pad (on medium setting) on your lap.
The machine's performance won't mean a thing if you're not comfortable using it in a mobile -way. Otherwise, you're just stuck another desk/table.
You do what "feels" right for your mobile gaming, else you won't be enjoying your games.
i guess im going for lappie, i dont mind the less portability, its still mobile, and also it would be nice to use it for programming and 3d modelling.
edit:wow it can run windows? mabye ill reconsider...
i was kind of hoping someone with a deck would give an estimate in their experienced performance of the deck vs a gpu similiar to 1650
You can't JUST compare the GPUs. There is a whole bunch of factors for comparing them.
The biggest being how important is being able to play anywhere?
But there is something magically fun about playing games on the Steam Deck that is hard to quantify. It's a unique way to experience these games which makes them feel new again.
If I had the option to choose, I would pick the Steam Deck again. But I also already have a more powerful desktop computer, so that factors into it as well.
